Snowlover11
What a joke. So much for heavy snow after 7-8pm. I got maybe 2.5” and this thing is on the door step already. Congrats to those up north and east.

It happens. dumping snow but back edge is so close. Not one model had this done by 9 which it will be at this rate I called for 7” for my backyard last night and that’s still looking good. Some parts of CT and further east on LI will probably hit 10”. HRRR/RAP have snow lingering around here for much of the overnight. That was looking like the jackpot zone all day-from eastern half of Suffolk through much of CT and the Hudson Valley/Albany. And it was a risk that with the banding making it that far east it would result in subsidence/shredded crap over the city and west.

Not a personal attack on the mets, but it is worth pointing out that for parts of the area they are woefully wrong and misinformed about what is playing out. There's a state of emergency, and winter storm warnings throughout the state -- they won't cave in that easily lol. News media was going crazy this morning about this being the biggest storm in years. We had more snow two weeks ago. jm1220
I said 3 days ago that these storm types are infamous for trending north at the end and some others like Forky said they can keep trending north until the start. It’s why I personally never root on SWFE/overrunning storms and they’re bread and butter for the I-90 corridor. We get lucky once in a blue moon like Feb’s or Nov 2018 but by and large they suck for our area (S of I-84). Because of the orientation of the high and blocking it’s being shoved SE at the last minute which should be good for my backyard and east this time but lesson number bajillion why we should take big snow outcomes for NYC on models 72+ hours out in this type of setup with lots of skepticism. This isn’t NYC’s type of storm to pile up significant amounts-we need the benchmark Miller A or Miller Bs to come back.
Winterweatherlover
It's disappointing given what many models were showing and what NWS predicted but at the end of the day a primary tracking into the midwest is usually not a formula for significant snow in NYC. Fortunate in a way to get an all frozen event out of this setup.

It reads the 9000 ft near 32F TT very well.... repeatedly. While NAM has lots of variability in its modeling of this storm... when you see it have ice, be cautious. Those that get my FB messages knew of my concern in NJ/PA. This is not a classic storm... no closed low at 850MB. Banding into good snow growth in the cold air produced. se NYS/CT/parts of LI. still a little hope for tail end southward rotate 1-2" down to I80 but the models overall were too snowy in ne PA/nw NJ including the SPC HREF big time. Euro prob for 4"+ seems pretty good. What I used this morning at 5s30A. Pattern still good for us into January. Good night. 10
