Lets not go nuts congratulating the NAM guys, i mean christ this is just a big a bust in the other direction. The warm mid levels were def underestimated by some models. But claiming the nam nailed anything in this subforum is probably luck, because wtf is this nonsense lol

Oh and btw the NAM sucks.  You know I hate that model and have for as long as you've known me but it's pretty decent with mid-level warmth.

And another awesome event this season for the Albany area. That area to Hartford and over to Poughkeepsie should all have an easy 6-10" tonight. The snow shield looking like that is what we needed. The best 700mb dynamics and lift were closer to the 700mb low in upstate NY.

100%. But being correct by accident in some places while being incredibly wrong in other doesnt mean it performed better lol. As of 7 pm its the worst model for anyone north of nyc.

Yup. For years. It is on point at sniffing out that warm nose at mid levels. I have no idea what the percentage is? But, I would say it's 90% correct most of the time.

It's not an accident that it was correct on the warm nose. Nobody pointing out the NAM was saying anything about snowfall north of the city.

Mesoscale Discussion 2276
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0541 PM CST Fri Dec 26 2025

Areas affected...Upstate NY to eastern Long Island...including parts of southern New England

Concerning...Heavy snow

Valid 262341Z - 270545Z

SUMMARY...Heavy snow bands will spread/develop southeast across upstate NY toward southern New England over the next few hours. Snow rates of 1-1.5"/hr are expected.

DISCUSSION...Low-amplitude short-wave trough is progressing southeast across western NY/PA early this evening. Latest water-vapor imagery depicts a notable midlevel vort max southwest of Syracuse, and this is reflected well in radar data. Multiple heavy snow bands have developed ahead of this vort max, strongly influenced by low-level warm advection, extending across upstate NY into the lower Hudson Valley. Boundary layer moistening supports this with dew points now rising into the mid teens (F) where snow rates are increasing. Over the next few hours snow rates are expected to increase downstream across western CT and Long Island, largely in response to this well-defined short wave digging toward the northern Middle Atlantic. Snow rates of 1-1.5"/hr can be expected prior to the short wave passage.

I thought 3-6 was realistic and I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong. Congratulations to all who cash in!

Same here.  Was going 3-6" here as well.  Thought 3" was pretty much a lock.  The 6" was going to be a reach but I thought 3-6" covered the range of reasonable possibilities.
