BooneWX
Good morning my Appalachian brethren. I hope your week is going well. I’ve come here to join forces as a collective council. For years, we’ve been divided by rich (windward hills) and poor (leeward hills). The time has come for forces to align. There was a period many years ago where we could forcefully WILL an out-east weenie map westward. Do we have the same magic in us? I think we could. Everyone focus all of your positive energy as a collective western NC body to get the pretty pink colors over us by say Thursday. 5 1

GoAPPS
Timing is everything with this weekend's system. The Euro phases the upper low later and farther east, leaving the mountains with cold air aloft but limited divergence and moisture. The GFS phases earlier, allowing stronger upper-level divergence to overlap deeper moisture and throw precip back into the Appalachians.

Later phase by the Euro won.
Tyler Penland
3.9º for a low at the house this morning. Temperature shot up to 17º by 8AM, though, which was kinda weird.
Hvward
Most models are showing some form of snow showers Friday night and into Saturday for most of us here in WNC. Early phase looks better for a boom, but looks like a 1"-3" or 2"-4" event is on the table for most every model. That's more snow than I have seen in a while, I'll take it!

Met1985
Regardless of if this system throws moisture back our way it looks like we are going to have a few impulses that come through here with the PV lobe. I don't think it will just be flow snow either.
Hvward
Euro now showing a widespread 6”+ event for most all of us on the 18z. Widespread 4”-8” event now on the table?? That will send WNC back into a frenzy. Winds will be an issue with a pressure gradient like what is being shown. I saw a post today about this not being a big deal that might be regretful.
Tyler Penland
Couple photos from the store today. The lot looks like all of them in Blowing Rock - a solid sheet of ice. They managed to get some busted up so I could share how thick it is. Sent from my Pixel 10 Pro using Tapatalk

That closed off upper low looks to be brutal for the Mountains.

I saw that post as well and while I respect that meteorologist, I thought that might just be a bit premature.

The way this thing has trended today. I wouldn’t be surprised for even more than that. But with that in mind it could very well go back the other way. I don’t think we will have to good of a handle on this till Thursday. Fun times of tracking ahead. I think regardless the upper level low will give the mountains a couple of inches.
Met1985
Obviously having the Euro bite is huge for us. A cold ground, a true arctic high building in, high winds. This has all the makings of a fun weekend.

My son "shoveled" off about a third of it today, and it took him almost 3 hours. My driveway is only 60 feet long, if that. He was using the backside of an ax to pummel the ice into pieces that could then be shoveled off into the yard. School is going to be remote in Catawba County for the rest of the week, I would imagine. And, then, we get to the weekend's event...
CheoahBald1
After seeing the Euro make a big jump like that I wouldn’t be surprised to see the heavier snow keep ticking west our way. But then again wouldn’t be surprised to wake up in the morning and poof it’s gone lol. 3

Hvward
Substantial changes in snowfall totals from the 12z EPS to the 18z. Here are the two below. Remember they are only taking into account 10:1 ratio. Really feel like something is finally brewing for us.
