I'm not so sure its the models that are bad, but rather the (lack of) initialization data that is being fed into them:

Warm spots in NJ  can add another 80° day this month with a few breaks of sun.

I have the maybe 0.5” now from the one batch of rain. Lucky swath through Nassau has about 1”. Looks like maybe a few showers to go then done.
