While we haven't seen much smoke in a few weeks, with a return to more of a northwesterly flow pattern, some smoke and haze aloft is evident on visible satellite imagery this morning across southern parts of Canada, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern lower Michigan. Shouldn't be a huge deal but the HRRR-Smoke does show some elevated levels of near surface smoke for northeast North Dakota and far northern Minnesota later today.

recent warm stretch has done work getting lake water into shape for holiday weekend swimming, should be on track for about 80 by later in the month

The family and I spent the day enjoying the 70 degree water at Holland State Park today.  Normally don't see that until later in July.

unbelievable 14"+ of rain in 24 hours in central texas, with some areas seeing 19" over 3days

A couple things.

1. This specific area has desperately needed rain as they've been dealing with a multi-year severe drought since at least 2022. It's just unfortunate that it came in the form of a historic flash food event.

2. There have been 56 confirmed deaths so far, and there's still 27 people missing. This is in part because the worst of the flooding occurred in the middle of the night.
