I'd have to look at the numbers, but it does feel like when we push 100F in late June it tends to return at some point in the summer.

Yes there’s a lot of data to support that.  But my point is.. why do they say Broken back ? There’s a shit load of heat and humidity coming. Does it really matter if it’s 100 or 93? It’s like saying winter is over because it hit 0 in December

Whoosh.  You need a sarcasm detector.

No point looking that up it’s true…

As one that hobbies heat waves I can tell you that’s true for this region…

But it doesn’t appear to be causally linked, either - not that anyone’s suggesting so; just thought I’d add that.

Statistically we don’t breech 100 often enough. That is the proxy in why less likely to do that twice in a single year.

Based on the prior generations of climate, that is; it’s an important distinction to make. I don’t know in this present era if that is still as lesser likely.

If one’s a gambler putting money down on having it occur more than once in a season, getting the first in the books in June is probably better odds than having the first happen in early August… obviously

I'm thinking this is a top 5 heat wave here in CT given the combination of high/low temperatures, humidity, and timing.

Going in reverse chronological order

June 2025
July 2011
July/August 1995
July 1991
July/August 1975

Edit: I'm thinking July 1911 should be somewhere in there, and if so, I'd probably take out 1995.

The humidity has def gone back up again noticeably after that brief coastal front passed through. It’s crazy how quickly we flipped the switch back up again after the winds gone dead silent. The mosquitoes have popped up all of the sudden too, bastards!

Reminder on 2/17 you speculated that SNE had seen it's last measurable snowfall...

I have a huge dead ash tree with the bark peeling off, that would be instant firewood if I was staying here but I'm on to Maine in a month and my stove stays here.

I don’t burn wood in the house, I have a 12x20 shed we hang out in in the winter time so that’s where the stove is, Only source of heat in there, The lawn though

I'm torn between getting a wood stove for the Maine house or a pellet stove, wife wants pellets.

I contemplated that as well, But we usually sit outside and have a fire on the weekend with friends in my fire pot so I would still have needed wood.

Why do people do this? Ending summer on June 25th? This is looking like one of the warmest we have seen in many many years . There’s literally 3 hot months left.  Knowledgeable posters too

Your reactions to any posts that aren't stoking hype for the hottest weather mankind has ever seen are funny.  It comes off like a stoner who's high is getting ruined .

Every summer is warm these years.  And humid.  You'll get your fix and plenty of it.
