This rain is tropical at this point.

During my hike it was super similar to tropical storm feel (part of which I’m sure is the orthographic lift and being in the clouds) but you could tell the atmosphere is saturated and the rainfall rates are maximized

There is definitely flooding going on locally.
3.7".  We're going to make a run at 4".

Our sweet spot is getting that southerly/easterly flow…basically just throws moisture along the “front range”. Nw/westerly flow systems are generally trash here that lead to scattered showers and debris clouds.

You might make a run at 5+

The earlier runs that suggested a Charlottesville to Winchester mega event 2nite nailed it... Still a firehouse on radar along that corridor...

Dollins Creek , off of Burches creek rd...

Apparently a 12 year old unfortunately is missing in floodwaters  along the eastern foot of Afton... This rain has been and is incredibly intense down here in Albemarle so far this evening... Alot of lightning but just gentle rolling thunder...

Classmate of my middle schooler. Very sad.

Very sorry to hear that... And I feel for the parents if the worst is realized -- That is a terrible feeling that never fades no matter how much time passes...

I will admit that I don't trust it, but there was a pretty clear signal in the 12Z CAMs for heavy rain to break out on the east side of DC and over to the Eastern Shore during the mid evening hours.

Looking at the radar and the hourly trends, it appears things are picking up in lower Delaware, and also over the lower Eastern Shore and moving NNW .

Although its too early to  be certain, maybe the 12Z CAMs might be onto to something.

The HRRR has shown this for several cycles, and the evening CAM suite continues the trend.   That said, while they seems to be spot on in terms of location and timing, actual coverage so far appears to be less than progged.

I'd estimate 1" in past 24 hours W of BWI, my digital gauge was reading too low because it had a tiny leaf interfering with its tipping bucket, interesting that it was still registering a non-zero amount despite the leaf

1.18" here in the South River watershed. It's still steadily lightly raining. I'm going to take a hike and check out the flowering mountain laurel.

Was going to take some trash out to the curb as pick up is tomorrow and I put the can out already. Opened the garage and saw it was pouring again. The garage itself feels like a wet sauna. Decided that it can wait till tomorrow morning. The cell over me seems to keep back building so thinking will get close to the 2” mark soon.

Backyard station currently showing 1.89"
