2019-20 New England Snow

Recommended Posts

Over 39” prior to New Year’s.   But, the cutters and torches have left very little to show.  This 3” of dense, waterlogged stuff might last longer than fluff, but not sure how long it and the 2-5” it covers will last

Continuous snowcover since Dec 1.  Not bad

What were your totals in other storms? I know you had 25” on the first. That’s dam good.

Let’s see if this works

Date Amount Note
12/30/2019 3.00 Thunder and sleet and snow
12/17/2019 4.25 Poorly forecast. I was thinking 4-6” leaning upper end. Very icy in areas
12/11/2019 4.00 I underestimated this one
12/06/2019 2.30 Little fluffy critter
12/03/2019 25.00 2 day total
11/24/2019 1.00

I'm kind of wondering why you are not seeing the " suffix in the amount field. What page is this screenshot from?

Kevin thanks again for filling in the numbers for those of us who do not. I’ll look back at the log in info and try to do that myself. I like the addition of details like what Dave did.

Not a problem doing it.

Logging in does give you much more control over your own records. It's not just Dave who adds details to events. Several people now do it and I think it's great. Filtering, sorting, and searching, is much better now, than it was in the past.

Is is from “my records”.   It wasn’t a screenshot exactly.   It was a copy and past.

31.9" at MHT for Dec. The snowfall data is pretty bad there (atleast that I can find), but looking at surrounding COOPs thats up there. Probably a few years with more, but not many

Yeah we're piecing the database back together, but it's kind of out of our hands as to how fast that gets done. We have all the coops B-91s but NCEI ultimately is the entity that has to change the information in the database. It'll get there eventually, but this process didn't even start until sometime after we picked up SW NH again.

6.5" total by noon moves Dc to 15.4", still 4" BN but no longer a disaster and may have picked up a tenth or two after that.  With Novie's 8.4" the season is within 1.1" of my average thru 12/31.

December snowfall rankings for my area:

#1 1970: 35.8"

#2 2007: 33.5"

#3 1956: 31.3"

#4 1981: 30.6"

#5 1995: 28.2"

#6 2019: 28"

#7 1967, 1975: 26.7"

#8 1976: 26.5"

#9 1969: 25.7" (primary analog)

#10 1963: 24.3"

Good December....AIT.

Top ten Decembers I've measured, from a variety of places:

1.  61.5"  1976  Fort Kent

2.  47.3"  1978  Fort Kent

3.  46.2"  2007  New Sharon

4.  46.1"  1981  Fort Kent

5.  44.8"  1983  Fort Kent

6.  43.2"  1995  Gardiner

7.  39.9"  2016  New Sharon

8.  38.4"  2003  New Sharon

9.  34.6"  1977  Fort Kent

10. 32.3"  1984  Fort Kent

My 9 Decembers in Fort Kent averaged 36.4" and I never had 40+ in another month there - 39.5" in Jan. 1977 is closest.

#11 is either 2013 in New Sharon or 1966 in NNJ, each about 31".

This year's 15.9" ranks 13th of 22 here, 26th of 47 since moving to Maine.  (Add NNJ, using sites near where I lived, makes this year 31st of 73 - yay, top half!)
