Florida dumped the strict Miami building code also. This will be another test in 2 years to see if it was the right choice.

After Michael last year I don't think the HWRF can ever be completely tossed out.

After the performance over the past 24hrs, I think every model and every ensemble member should  should be completely tossed.

the day is still young, my friend.  it's not even noon out here in the liberated zone.

My uncle just bought a house back in Buffalo and they are officially snowbirds. They have 2 houses near Delray Beach a little bit south of West Palm. Keeping an eye on this one, as they will have to fly back and board up if the Euro is correct. Pretty much a direct hit as their house is on the beach.

we've really become desensitized to the risk the FL peninsula experiences. another period like the 20's-50's will happen and we'll have plenty of double strike threats. some of the posts in the main thread lack historical understanding.

Hurricanes on the Gulf coast are a part of life. It's to be expected and part of your choice to live in that area. Just like earthquakes in California and Tornadoes in Oklahoma.

Hot take right here

new black supermoon and the king tides.  yall better get up to speed on the lingo, because it makes the storm cooler sounding.

It won’t have the polar coaster effect to make it elite and overpowered.

The eye is really clearing out, radar shows an intensifying eyewall.  Visible satellite imagery shows hot towers in the NE Eyewall.

This is a main thread quality post

Several hundred millibar drop with Dorian from the previous pass. Radar gone full ring, and the water temperature has dropped 50 degrees.

Edit: Recon finding 500 mph winds. I'd say anywhere from Miami to Boston should evacuate.

This is just an early guesstimate, but I think landfall will occur between Miami and Vero Beach Florida early Monday morning (2 am - 8 am) as a cat 4-(5??) then emerge out in the GOM with a secondary landfall in the western Florida panhandle as a cat 3-(4??).
