The interesting mirco situation was the CT shore from HVN west to Norwalk..including where Joe lives at Fairfield Beach. They stayed <0C for pretty much the duration while places southwest and northeast went above. My only theory is that the ageo flow down the Connecticut and Housatonic Valleys saved them.

Not a fun start to this cold season for torch-lovers.

 

 

The cold being under-estimated by guidance was almost a lock with the origin of this airmass and the high position.

All things considered, you have had a decent start to the winter though.

The snow in Natick is all crusted over...different from ORH which only had a bit of a sleet layer on the top. Very scenic though.

Mine's crusted over too, had 7" at 2am with light snow, its compacted down to about 4", should have some staying power.

5.5 here, made executive decision and left the sleet snow 1/2 mix on the black top after seeing my neighbor slide off his driveway. Fantastic storm, did not stop snowing during dry slot and then all hell broke lose right before pinging.

In 2012 this storm would have been almost 1/2 of that seasons total. Just enough snow to utilize the snow-blower. Machine works well, the operator not so much. Must make an adjustment on the skid-plates. Man that throw shoot literally was tossing snow 40-50' LOL

8" new when I measured this AM after compaction.  Crusted over with a thick layer of freezing drizzle.  I'm putting this in the books as 8.5" - very respectable.

I feel sorry for the poor people who wait to shovel out the end of their driveway tonight.

Some nice data from early this morning. I was sleeping but I believe we didn't see pingers last night. Good storm to start the season.

We still have about 12" on the ground with minimal compaction. The little bit of sleet that we got from 3-5 am blasted right through the fluff about 6". Shot through the stuff like little missles but didn't really compact it too much. Definitely noticed the shoveling today was heavier than last night. Really nice xc skiing conditions here. Great start to winter.

2.8" in Falmouth. Had 0.1" of IP and then all rain. That switchover was amazingly fast. Hardly any wind.
