February 8th-9th Snowstorm/Blizzard Event Observations

Never seen it snow this hard. Easily 2 a hr rate

 

 

It was a lot more than that here. I went out and measured 7.5 inches right before that hit. Just went out now, 15 minutes later, and I have 8.5". Just INSANE squall line of snow that was. Now it's down to very light snow. 8.5 is probably gonna be the final total here.

Final heavy band was great. Just wish it lasted longer, as it was really piling up fast (I agree with the 2-3" hour estimates). By far the heaviest snow from the event. Just measured 7.6". I'm quite pleased, especially considering I only had picked up around 2" before the early evening break.

This was probably one of the best turn-arounds that I have seen...to think that much of C NJ completely shut off from precipitating to heavy snow and 6 in. of accum. is quite unusual for this area during a major storm. Usually these back end events don't develop or live up to expectations.

2/26/10 did the same thing..looked like a bust until about 9:00 and then things got crazy

LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH 3 AM. A BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY

SNOW WILL PASS ACROSS NEW YORK CITY AFTER 3 AM. GUSTY WINDS UP TO

40 MPH WILL RESULT IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW.

TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED IF POSSIBLE.
