Extreme Cold, Snow & Sleet: SECS 1/24 - 1/26
SACRUS replied to TriPol's topic in New York City Metro
25:1 ratios here as well more or less -
I think there's a freezing rain zone later just a little bit inland in NJ, hard for me to see how this kind of cold surface air gets dislodged. Still in the mid teens there.

Went for a drive and then a walk,,,,,,,,looks like a postcard outside,,,,,,,,,,,snow has picked up ,,,,let's see how this plays out but I keep thinking about those NAM runs Im glad to read that the Nam trended colder

January 25-26 Winter Storm Potential
Chadzachadam replied to Ralph Wiggum's topic in Philadelphia Region
3.5” in NW Philly. Looks very different from previous storms with basically nothing on the trees. Seems from other threads like the sleet line is coming quick but that sleet is holding on strong and not changing to ZR as fast as modeled. Most of NC and SC still primarily sleet -
Still appears to be all snow here.

huh...how'd i miss this. my grids didnt update but i like the sexy talk anyway. Enjoy all Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service State College PA 717 AM EST Sun Jan 25 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... * Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through 1 PM Monday with significant snowfall expected across all of central Pennsylvania. * Increased snowfall totals across much of the area due to higher confidence in a band of heavier snow occurring across north-central Pennsylvania. * Updated precipitation types across the southern tier of Pennsylvania to account for more snowfall, still some sleet/freezing rain mentions retained. -
Here in West Knoxville we still have 32 and rain. All our Ice is still on the trees. The Temperature has been very stubborn refusing to rise. I am sure we are about to go up anytime.

Still all snow but I can feel it coming lol

Thankfully the Austin TX area which I'm very familiar with got mostly sleet with some ZR. Would have been devastating if the 0.5" liquid fell as all ZR. It was kind of a crap shoot as to whether the cold surface air would be dense enough to refreeze the raindrops. In the areas where not, it was clear this would be a devastating event in places.

January 24-26: Miracle or Mirage OBS Thread!
Snowciopathic Snow Bro replied to Jebman's topic in Mid Atlantic
Gainesville: 15F air temp; dewpoint unknown as my venerable wx station gave up the ghost on that score. 3.9" of snow/sleet OTG. The changeover to sleet here seemed to occur right around 10z. I'm very pleased to report that there is zero snow stickage to trees. If we get any ice accretion later today from potential ZR (current NWS forecast < 0.1" ZR), at least there's no extra weight of snow on branches that'll be a factor. Sleet is harmless in this regard and simply bounces. We'll be very appreciative of this come tomorrow when winds are progged to gust to 30 mph. Anything that helps us keep the power on through this upcoming frigid week is a plus in my book. So time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the NFL conference championship games later today. I'll worry about shoveling this mess later. Maybe have a nice meal today, too, as long as there's someone in the house that'll take my trident. -
Is that earlier than forecasted and is it in the same? Area that it was forecasted, or is deviated a bit

Reminds me of PD2. Such a bust again. -
Such a dry , powdery champagne type snow that the slightest breeze makes it look very gusty.
