February 2026 Medium/ Long Range Discussion: Buckle Up!
Weather Will replied to Weather Will's topic in Mid Atlantic
WB 12Z AI EPS. Precip. Anomalies look better as we head through the second week of February and it still looks cold enough. -
Not to say anything like this is going to happen, but I remember one event or rather non-event when I lived in Athens. We had super cold air, i think it was a week or so before we got the big sleet storm. We had a Winter storm warning out for multiple inches of dry snow. That morning I woke up and watched Bill Race, and he was saying it would not be long until the snow saturated the air, and we would be getting snow at a good rate. I remember looking out and seeing a snowflake fall and thought it's starting. It was the only flake I saw all day. We ended up getting zilch. It was the biggest bust I can remember.

Jan 30th-February 1st 2026 Arctic Blast/ULL Snow OBS Thread.
Carvers Gap replied to John1122's topic in Tennessee Valley
Kind of surprising to see decent snow, and it not accumulating on grassy nor raised surfaces. The sun is still kind of poking through. I thought things would immediately be covered due to the very cold temps. Nope. It may stick later, but it is not right now. Knoxville folks, you are not really missing out...and I am under a decent band. -
Now, far north and west will it go?

February will obviously start BN/much BN. Don’t know yet how it will finish. But with BN December and January already…what was the last DJF with all 3 months BN??? Got to be a long time… -
I spent a whole sermon on this a couple hours ago and of course no one read it ( I don't learn apparently ) but yeah, there's a signal there. However, just like the shenanigans in the models leading up to this ordeal on Sunday, this next one may suffer the same frustrations. so,... it may have legs, but their not the Conan The Barbarian type of legs... They're like the kid with polio waddling around with the help of his arm crutches

Will be interesting to see RAH afternoon update. They introduced “heavy snow” and upped totals for most of central NC, as noted here -

I guess not… or Brad is just really dug in. He’s not dumb though. Ugh. Allan H just said he’s editing his map. Oh no. -

It makes meteorological sense but I have no idea what other mets are thinking. I mean if you are saturated enough in the DGZ no matter the height of it you can get snow. DGZ temps are typically between -12C and -18C. -
Wakefield just updated their Hourly Weather Forecast Grid... Now giving me (central Virginia Beach) 8.8," down from 9.0" this morning and 11.5" yesterday...

February 2026 Medium/ Long Range Discussion: Buckle Up!

Good thing about being busy at work all week- I haven't had much time tor tracking anything run to run and get invested. I saw a couple decent runs on the GFS and maybe one on the Euro, but otherwise it's looked like maybe a skiff of snow along a cold front. -
Until that storm, I always used to say, just from experience, to never get excited about rain turning to "wraparound" snow. (Not just wraparound snow, which happens, but wraparound snow which started as rain.) I'd seen it predicted a bunch of times and never saw it materialize beyond a coating at most. But since this storm, I have to temper whatever I say with 'except Christmas 2002.' I've never seen a storm which pasted everything white with snow. Not just stop signs, but entire fences top to bottom. Just a really unique storm.

Agreed. Also if this weekend’s coastal ends up weaker than currently forecasted, way end up with less confluence to the NE and allow next week’s minor event to come back up north. Again, minor is the operational word. Upside was never very high with that one. The Feb 10-15 window is another to keep an eye on. -

@GBOVolz are you still on VQ? Ol’ Matt has a Snowquest thread going. About an hour ago, he posted that snow totals were coming down in and around Knox. Not sure where’s he seeing that unless he’s looking at the NAM. Everything else has been consistent. I know he’s apparently a meteorologist which made me wonder what he’s looking at.
