  1. Past hour
  2. Going to be a huge temp gradient setting up this week between WI and IL
  3. Yea might’ve gusted to 20 finally
  4. Bingo. SPC was way too gung ho on this anyways. Day 2 Moderate was insane for this setup
  5. Very happy to see minimal impacts from the severe threat today! Now, let’s root for that changeover this evening. Temps are dropping like crazy over the western half of PA now. Latest GFS & HRRR last hour is bringing 1 to 2 inches of snow even to the LSV. It should be a fascinating weather evening. I might nap in the early evening & then wake up late night to watch it snow if the radar looks promising later on.
  6. Not entirely accurate. Many departments and associated agencies were informed of the decision prior to noon and were told to leave NLT 2pm. It was not all at once.
  7. Sad to hear, Roger and I shared a passion about moon phases and tidal current, and their interactions with weather systems. Big loss to our forum.
  8. They've finally pulled the trigger on a WWA. A little surprised it wasn't issued sooner, given the robust anafrontal precipitation shield.
  9. Very sad to hear. Enjoyed his posts. RIP

  11. I want to say it'll be mostly melted except for the piles by saturday afternoon
  12. There have been some wind damage reports mainly in the York and Harrisburg areas so far. https://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/today.html
  13. it's the same problem though. OPM directed everyone to basically leave at 2pm... everyone all at once. Only once have they ever staged it as "up to x hours leave, NLT then Y departure." You can also tell the normal reporting chains are not functioning, as it took forever for media to pick it up.
  14. Is anyone staying up to see the changeover to snow? I have to be up very early so doubt I make it but wouldn’t mind getting some reports from those that do.
  15. Was there severe weather anywhere in the state? This was being billed as the largest most severe threat in many years.
  16. It is not just the wind direction that is a factor. All day the flow was southerly and it still is. A very messy warm sector with low cloud cover and showers today is what tempered the severe weather risk. Powerful cold front moves through later this evening and that should be accompanied by a low-topped line. That could still tap into the strong wind field to produce areas of damaging winds.
  17. Well, that was nothing. They shut down schools for this?
  18. Added about 1/2 inch of snow from the NW this afternoon. Looks like more upstream as dark approaches. Temp is down to 30.
  19. I understand that, but it was an Easterly flow until the early morning hours. I have observed often in the past as a lifelong weather weenie that unless flow turns solidly from the sw in these situations, we never get the instability needed for severe weather. The ocean is too cold this time of the year and that influence lingers in these situations and the forecast rarely takes that into account.
  20. Hey SPC if you’re looking to replace the jabroni’s that blew it today, I’m available anyway getting another soaking rain at the very least, most of the area should finish over an inch qpf. This month has delivered on the moisture so far.
  21. Mesoscale Discussion 0280 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0513 PM CDT Mon Mar 16 2026 Areas affected...West Virginia into far eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania Concerning...Heavy snow Valid 162213Z - 170215Z SUMMARY...A swath of moderate to heavy snow will spread north/northeast in the coming hours. Snowfall rates may locally increase to 1-2 inches per hour. DISCUSSION...Recent regional radar mosaics depict transient bands of moderate to heavy snowfall within a broader precipitation shield across the central Appalachians/upper OH River Valley. Surface observations under the heavier bands have been reporting periods of visibility reductions down to 1/4 mile. A broad swath of moderate snowfall will be maintained through the evening as ascent within the left-exit region of a 120 knot 500 mb jet continues to shift northeast. Increasing 850-700 mb frontogenesis will continue to overspread the upper OH Valley and provide more focused mesoscale ascent favorable for focused snow banding and periods of heavy snowfall rates. Although the strongest lift will likely be focused within the 850-700 mb layer, ascent through 500 mb will include a roughly 100 mb-deep dendritic growth zone. This will also help maintain moderate to heavy snowfall rates as surface temperatures fall below freezing within the post-frontal air mass. Based on latest guidance, snowfall rates over 1 inch/hour appear likely and may periodically be as high as 2 inches/hour across portions of PA and within the higher terrain of the Appalachians later this evening. ..Moore.. 03/16/2026
  22. I’m getting more rain and wind now than I got from either event this morning.
