I've mastered the ability as I've aged, to compartmentalize druthers aside from the objective ( or attempts at being so...) analytic stuff. My definition is any of the following criteria being met. Of course no winter meets these criteria consecutively, but the end of winter in my book is whenever the last date of one of these criteria is met 1) snow/sleet accumulation 1"+ 2) ice accumulation more than a light glaze 3) high temps in the 30s for 3+ days in a 5 day stretch

They saw the forecasted highs for next week and extrapolated without consulting long range models.

It will be interesting to see how the models evolve as we get closer to 2026 and 2027. Right now, long range El Nino forecasts can change a lot with new ocean and atmospheric data. Watching sea surface temperature trends and trade wind patterns over the next year should give a clearer picture.
