Pittsburgh/Western PA WINTER ‘25/‘26
Burghblizz replied to Burghblizz's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
Take this to banter. There was nothing to “try” except your made up “calendar day” thing. Most areas near downtown got 12-13”. The north hills got slammed with more. I’m shoveling 15”. Even with the lower airport total it’s the 20th snowiest calendar day ever, if one cares about calendar days. -

Didn't even get close to the forecasted high of 55 today. Made it to about 41. Currently 37 with mist and I can hear rumbles of thunder. -

Richmond Metro/Hampton Roads Area Discussion

Totally depends on the wind. If we get wind that's trouble -
Hard to imagine but Jan 24 1967 (68, 54) was fifty degrees warmer than yesterday was in NYC, and sixty degrees warmer than Jan 24, 1882 (6, -6). Jan 25, 1967 is still the warmest day in Toronto's now 186 years of January records (61 F).

There's no way they only picked up a half inch these last two hours lol. They never really hit a lull. It filled in over them. That combined with them somehow only receiving .4 after reporting half a mile visibility for two hours. It's not a big deal in reality but still very confusing lol -

It really doesn't. I have always wondered if they under did their measurements, simply because everywhere else in the county always seems to be more. -
This was from the middle of my parents cul-de-sac in 1961. I have memories of them doing the same thing years later (but no photographs). Not sure why they stopped the practice.

Impossible to measure with all the drifting here. On the marsh/ocean. Front yard is knee deep. Took the raptor out for a drive to test it out in the snow. Roads are good here. Mostly just plows and cops out. It was a complete whiteout driving sandy beach in cohasset. 5-10 ft of visibility between heavy snowfall and blowing/drifting. Hadn't experienced that since 2015. Loving every second of it. 26f with 1" per hour rates.

NAM has a warm tongue at 6z next Sunday, storm not looking good probably a lot of sleet

1/25: 9.5” 13.8” season total
-
Yeah - I'm at 6-7" of snow followed by 3-4" of sleet. This is going to stick around for a long long time.
-
JFK won't go above freezing, if anywhere in the city does maybe the rockaways but doubtful anyone goes above freezing west of Nassau county.

Do we dare wish for and earlier phase? I see Baja energy…

Rumor on the block is this nailed today’s storm. Got any more thoughts on it from a more educated perspective? -
What a great storm. Never experienced significant snow at under 10 degrees. Maybe it underperformed my unrealistic expectations, but who cares? About a foot of snow/sleet and frigid conditions. Be safe on the roads and when cleaning it all up.
-
At least with the storms last year and now this we are becoming a snow cover town.. no more drip drip as the storm is ending
