There’s not a lot of hickory up here. Most of the large beech, chestnuts, butternut, and ash are gone. A lot of the yellows are aspen and birch which turn with the maples. There’s some ironwood and basswood around too, but they don’t grow like weeds like the others.

I'm moving up to Barns Corner, Tug Hill on  Dec 1. I'm looking at forward to learning all the different species of trees up there. I know all the trees here in Maryland. I can identify trees by the bark, leaves, and crown shape. While I'm playing in the snow I'll be studying the different trees species. Sorry so the banter. I get excited when fokes talk about trees.

Tom, That first pin has a bit more color then the last several years, The one to the left is still mostly green, Genearlly they end up pretty dull reddish/brown and go to brown and hang on to most of the leaves until spring.

White oaks are super underrated. I know there's not a lot of them in New England. We have lots here in Maryland. The thing about the oaks and hickory is that they turn late. I call it second peak. White oaks get auburn and purple. The reds oaks get bronze, and the hickory trees get gold. I live how the backdrop is gray from bare softwood trees during second peak. Oaks are the king of the forest.

Thats all I have is white oaks.  The bark is very different from a red oak.  They are great for fire wood and floors.  Thats about it.  They make a mess in the yard.

Phenomenal stretch of days.

Hard freeze starts in the 20s and goes to 60F under cloudless skies.

It is crazy how this time of year there can still be frost in the shade at like 11am despite it closing in on like 50F outside.

Yup, Sun’s weak now…and getting weaker by the day.
