It's gotten pretty crazy here. 1/4mile vis just from the rain. Flash Flood Warnings almost the entire eastern half of the state now expanding to the NE as this next bow moves in. Phones gone off 3 times for a FFE in the last 2 hours. We could definitively see 15 inch event totals in places(some already have over 10) if this bow tracks along this stalled outflow boundary. Hoping it washes out as it turns similar to yesterday. Its a freaking electric power washer non stop out there too. Still constant lightning. Crazy stuff. I'm officially flooding severely now. hawkeye_wx Posted yesterday at 04:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:00 PM That spot two counties east of Indianapolis, where radar is estimating over a foot of rain, has been storming for 11 straight hours without a break, which is insane. Radar is now blowing up up with a bunch more to their nw.
magoos0728 Posted yesterday at 04:00 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:00 PM Looking for some understanding. Got dark here about 25 minutes ago on the far NW side of Chicago near Lincolnwood/Niles. Streetlights triggered, I assumed something was about to drop, checked the radar and nothing. Got brighter, lights go back off. Then about ten minutes later wife at the office in Northbrook area texts me that its 'night time dark out there' but nothing showed on the radar. Anyone have Skilling's phone number?

cyclone77 Posted yesterday at 04:56 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:56 PM Amazing drive into work this morning. Went from dense fog to dark as night driving right into the incoming line. Couldn't see a shelf cause of the fog. Then hit a wall of torrential rains and 60mph winds. Was worrying a bit about some of the trees whipping around on the west side of the highway. Another great soaker with over an inch at home looks like.

Malacka11
Hyped to see how the train ends up later, was "worried" about a near total shut out but from my model hawking it looks like the action may at least start as far north as 88ish. On the one hand, rooting for IYBY inundation is a special kind of masochism for obvious reasons, especially with flash flooding being a proven concern for my building's parking lot. But I also can't recall the last time I personally experienced the sort of train where the ~GV+ genuinely just keeps rolling through overhead for hours. At least I don't have a basement to worry about...
ILSNOW
Chicago NWS UPDATE... Issued at 1106 AM CDT Thu Aug 13 2026 Mosaic radar imagery shows a broad swath of rain showers moving east through Iowa and into southwestern Wisconsin and western Illinois. Notably, DVN radar shows a distinct curl from an MCV just south of Grandview as it crosses the Mississippi River. Recent mesoanalysis shows a low level instability gradient from Muscatine, IA to Fowler, IN. This remains the favored corridor that the system would likely want to travel along, and any storm movement east of this gradient in the forecast area would be expected to lose strength. Even as the complex loses strength over the area, stratiform rain is expected to spread over Illinois and northwest Indiana. Therefore, the forecast was adjusted to increase PoPs all the way up to the Wisconsin stateline through the afternoon for the increasing chances for widespread rain. However, the focused area for thunder remains southwest of Oregon to Morocco line. Wind shear is fairly marginal (localized up to 30 knots), but there is a stout DCAPE gradient from southern LaSalle to Benton County increasing southward to over 1000 J/kg. It will be this area that has the best probability for localized strong to potentially severe wind gusts, but confidence remains low.
