I was in the heaviest part of that line. Peak rainfall rate of 10"/hr, so extremely intense. Up to 2.50" on the day and around 2.60" for the event.

Unlike the last few threats, near max instability today, especially West of Long Island. The limiting factor today will be wind shear. The primary severe threat will be strong wind gusts from downbursts. Expect slow moving storms that will dump and frequent lightning.

I know you like saying this but some of us lived through this time period. The 90s had much more sustained and long lasting heat than we do now. I remember 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1999 quite clearly and sustained extreme heat like that has not happened since. And back then I most definitely wasn't running my heat in the summer like I've had to do in the latter half of July this year. In the 90s the only summer I ran my heat was in 1992 the year of no summer thanks to Pinatubo.

Was there an actual tornado though? The F2 on Labor Day 1998 was a real tornado that caused real tornado damage.

High temperatures are MUCH more comfortable than high humidity. 102 degrees with 20 percent humidity is FAR better than this sauna.

But dry heat is normal for July and high humidity is normal for August.

There have been periods similar to the 90s
2002, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2025 

1993 / 2010 /2022 were similar heat
1999 / 2025 similar
1991 : 2022 similar

Droughts are a normal part of our climate and a healthy way to get rid of excessive vegetation. Droughts normally happen in the summer and sometimes the fall and really aren't anything to be alarmed about. During the 90s I used to water for about 4 hours every other day after I got home from work and found it quite enjoyable and relaxing. Sometimes I just turned the water on and went inside and enjoyed watching the rainbows created by it.

Summer is the time to be outside when most people dont want rain unless it's in brief 20 to 30 minute spurts with sunshine 90 percent of the time. We have the other 3 seasons to have rain and cloudy weather lol.  I look at 1983 as an example of the kind of year that had everything and would probably make most people happy: a 20 inch snowstorm in February, another snow event in April, a hot and dry record setting summer with 100 in July and August and a 99 in September and then back to heavy rain for the Fall. A year with 80 inches of rain but no more than 2 inches in any of the summer months. The reason why summers are supposed to be dry is because we get the vast majority of our rainfall from coastal storms which dont happen in the summer or aren't supposrd to happen anyway (and neither are cutoffs). The abnormal and excessive rainfall we've had recently has polluted our reservoirs so we're getting water restrictions here from too much rainfall. That's in addition to toxic algae blooms caused by farm fertilizer and pesticide run off so people and pets can't go near the water at all. But this is a result of an extreme and historic el Nino and by next summer I'm pretty sure we'll be back to hot and dry in the summer like what's happened in the past when a strong el Nino ends-- 1966, 1983, 1999, 2010, etc.

Well we seem to have fewer multiple 7 day plus heatwaves per summer now wasn't 2002 the last summer in which we had at least 2 heatwaves of 7 days or more in length Tony?

  - Until 545 PM EDT.
  - At 454 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Pearl River, or near Nanuet, moving northeast at 10 mph.
