Just over 2” since 7pm, rainfall rate is down at the moment but this cell keeps back building with a new cell to the west moving this way. Flash Flood Warning issued until midnight.

Spoke too soon on the rainfall rate, up over 2.5” now in the past two hours.

There's a lot of rain on radar to come

radar is strange now with that stationary front laying across southern NJ individual cells are moving in different directions across the region

Quite dark to the southwest

I see 0z HRRR gives our area very little tonight, with the heavy 1 to 2 inch amounts missing to the north and south. Would be very sad if it happens to us yet again. I know it's very hard for the model to pinpoint the spots that will get heavy rain though, so hopefully the 0z run will be wrong.

HRRR is wrong. It didn't even get the initialized activity right

absolutely awesome storm ripped through westhampton last night 20 minutes after the fireworks. gusty winds, lashing rain, but nothing *too* severe like other people were affected in the forum. just a great show with very minor limb damage to trees. What are we thinking in terms of rainfall around SW nassau for the next two days? Driving to and from the hamptons this weekend I got a pretty good visual sense of where the worst of this vicious drought is and it seems like South West to South Central Nassau- and generally just the south shore, until around the Hamptons- has had it worst.

The south shore of Nassau has seasonal summer drought due to the sea breeze front. The more years I experience the more I comprehend this phenomenon. It’s a big part of why the Hempstead plains once existed. Native Americans used the summer seasonal drought to create controlled burns.
It doesn’t make it an easy place to live if your into gardening or in my case a landscape designer.
The good news with this event is, we often do best in summer with this exact setup.
