Holy bejesus. I let the chickens out to free range around 7 and within a few minutes the mama bear walked out into the neighbor’s yard. Of course I had a chicken near the property line. I made as much noise as I could without approaching and it ran back into the woods. Not a fun night corralling birds for 90 minutes. I set up a new Wyze cam a bit ago and aimed it on the coop.

Feeders are in. :greta:

Bears Foxes Bobcats all seen in my hood again this spring, not to mention all the hawks. Extreme numbers of squirrels, chipmunks around.

Chicken free range cancel

Plus, it's peak bird flu season (I think).  High(er) risk from any migratory flyover droppings or waterfowl flock intermingling.  Always clean boots when going between farms/chicken runs, too.

Daughter just had her 2nd surgery in a little over a month. 1st was a cholecystectomy. Ended up showing it was partially nectoetized. Scary. 2nd surgery was scheduled. Spinal surgery for tethered cord. This should alleviate many if here strength and pain issues. Sad it took us close to 8yrs to get this diagnosed. 1st day post surgery she had to remain prone. Yesterday was 1st day to attempt to sit up. Was rough. Went dizzy, lost vision and hearing and had to lie back down. Also got a spinal induced migraine. See what today brings. Optimistic she’ll be able to come home tomorrow or Monday depending on how physical therapy session show her progressing back to some level of basic activities.

8 years but better late than never. Hopefully it’s a faster than expected recovery. Best wishes to her, you, and your fam.

Thanks Brian. It’s been a long journey. The tethered cord is a condition that can happen in people with her condition. She was finally diagnosed about a year ago with EDS - Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. She also has POTS and MCAS. For those who don’t know what these all are, here it is in a snippet.

EDS - Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is a connective tissue disorder that causes hyper mobility and other connective tissue issues. This is the scary one that has a high morbidity to it to those with more severe cases. She is lucky hers is on the milder spectrum but debilitating nonetheless.

MCAS - Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and certain things can trigger your mast cells to activate and it causes a whole. It cause rashes and allergic responses.

POTS or Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is a nervous system disorder that cause dizziness/fainting and elevated heart rate.

Come to find out these 3 disorders are pretty commonly diagnosed together. She’s struggled in the last several years to do anything. Her joints are those of someone in there 60s/70s. She can get around a bit at home but she uses either a walker or a wheelchair when she’s out and about. It’s been hard to see all this take so long to get diagnosed.

Nice camera shot. Your landscape is a solid 3-4 weeks behind here.

Yeah it’s still mostly sticks here. The aspen and willow are the only things that have started leafing out. The forsythia is fully flowered now. Hopefully this week we wake more up.

He needs a dog. My dachshund will kill anything that steps in my yard. Haha

Fox almost just got a turkey in the yard. Caught it on cam retreating after the failed attempt.

Lone turkeys are tempting for foxes but still a tough catch.  A couple weeks ago we watched a flock of 7 turkeys chase a fox for 200+ yards.  He turned and charged them once but they didn't even flinch and went after him even more.  Then there was this hilarity in 2023 under one of the mulberry trees - there were  mulberries covering the ground and starting to ferment, none of these turkeys or the fox could walk straight let alone chase each other so they just shared the space eating those berries

Ha. That’s pretty funny.

Just got a pic of this squirrel. Looks like it has a story to tell. It was moving pretty well.

Are those mulberries albas/hybrids or pure rubras?
