I guess looking at everything today given the time of year, I didn’t see the reason for a “emergency dismissal”. Ok I get that…but as the top administrator for a school district…it’s you that’s gonna take the heat for the call you make. If folks weren’t so sue happy…then absolutely I agree with you. But that’s not the case…so what else can one do when presented with a possible situation like his…? You play it safe..and save your job. Not so sure of that-the places that canceled along the shoreline are taking a beating for over-correcting the other way after last Wednesday's non call. it's 33 with light rain and wet roads and places are closed. Typhoon Tip
This whole event is quite warm frontal like. I was thinking it was more symbolic of that yesterday but now it looks like it is an actual WAA/overrunning venting out ahead of a diffused warm transition. Noooormally I'd go above machine guidance when looking at those synoptic params for tomorrow ... Not so sure over a foot of corn snow pack. It'll be an interesting ob. Either way, with unnoticeable light zephyrs but noticeably warmer March sun it's going to sensibly appeal pretty fantastic for spring enthusiasts circa 2:15 in the afternoon. 1

That’s on them for f’ing up last Wednesday. Our guy here had a delay, and then went to canceling last Wednesday …he made the right call. Sey-Mour Snow
Ended up being the right call here, sidewalks already slick for pickup with the radar lit up to our west with snow and sleet.. The sleet makes it worse as it doesn't melt as quickly as the snow does with the March sun

I've seen it myself in a couple systems where I do electrical maintenance. They can't keep up with stairs and sidewalks let alone parking lots. And then of course there's always our litigious society Yea we don’t mind the closures personally but other parents don’t have as much luxury/flexibility. I get it though, it is never as easy as just looking at the weather forecast for a decision…
UnitedWx
40 minutes ago, WinterWolf said: Enough with the cancellation BS. John(FXWX) explained things perfectly a while back. All It takes is one little mishap, and a kid gets hurt, and say good bye to your job as as superintendent. And a massive law suit for the town/city. If I was in that job I’d cancel too…not going down from sue happy folks. Lots of districts, including mine, had a half day already planned, and the onset of frozen precip here inland was going to coincide with dismissal and travel during that window. If we had a full day here…I think we wouldn’t have had a cancellation. But we were slated to get out early and that’s what prompted the cancellation. If folks weren’t so lawsuit happy, maybe it would be different..but it isn’t. So that’s why it is the way it is. Our superintendent made a bad call his first year in, and he had us going in in the morning during a freezing drizzle event in early January, that came out of nowhere, and it was a total disaster of a morning. The parents and teachers wanted to hang the guy. He said never again…and I don’t blame the poor guy. It ain’t worth the hassle, and potential loss of your job. Tort reform is desperately needed, but never comes

WinterWolf
Heavy snow..28 degrees-great snow growth too. Accumulating on everything. As Seymour said…was the right call for inland areas FOR SURE. Elementary kids would be getting out here in 45 min-to an hour today…wouldn’t have been good.
