The weather channel yesterday was showing just how warm the entire winter has been in Denver....the entire winter has pretty much been like it would be in March and April...not just a co I ole days here and there

Denver is on track for its second warmest winter on record. Even wilder, Phoenix is demolishing its winter record and Winter 2025-2026 will be warmer than spring 1917 and as warm as spring 1965.

Such an outcome would be unthinkable in southern New England:

If we get a snap-back blizzard after the heat, I hope it comes after a couple of cold days.  We don't want the snow melting on warm roads.  Snow covered roads are a necessary for our enjoyment.

It won’t matter…all you need is rates. If the rates are good..it sticks. Period!

I want to say that was around the time the city started to experience it's development boom (well before the 70's) but would be a reasoning to explain the rapid increase in overnight mins (urban heating)...very similar to that of Las Vegas

same reason that it seems like we break some sort of rainfall record....everything is juiced up, snows more, rains more

was wondering if they moved the sensor around that time, expanded the airport, something....

Nah it’s all fake. Just the earth doing earth things. It warms, it cools…we humans should just keep abusing it until the sun burns out 3 billion years from now.

Only a matter of time before this region sees that. The northeast has been mostly shielded from this.

PHX has one of the highest documented UHI effects from development of any major station in the US. Not surprising though given its location.

Well yeah ... everything of atmosphere is thus integrated in/by the same state of being.  It has to be a part. That's just physical math. Kind of obvious. But ... you know how that goes, snow is cold so it's gotta be wrong

I mean seriously... rain snow dogs and cats, it all falls through the same circumstantial ambient atmosphere.  What ever the atmosphere is, the rain inherits.

Beside, it's academic anyway.  Science ( and common sense/intuition for that matter) of the atmosphere:  PV=NRT dictates it will hold more moles of H20 gas as the T goes up.  So it's been raining more where and when it rains because of availability.   And ...       snowing more too.

This is the thing that some folks ( I feel sometimes...) forget.  The WV increase aspect.  Everyone else in society just have trouble equating cold winters to a warm causality.  Deliciously designed by Gaia, so that the offending species cooks themselves out like an oven set to the clean end of the dial.  HAHA

There's been a marked increase noted globally whence single events equated a substantial fraction if not a whole season's worth of loading.  We could even argue this just struck home.  We're above normal snowfall in the region and some 70 or 80% or more of that is from just two events.   I'm not sure how the numbers break down exactly.  It's a glib example so tfwiw.

That enabling sarcasm was really more about the seasonal temperature stuff, though. Like this recent Jan; Dec did this too. Caged eastern/NE U.S. in cold.

are those rounds of severe weather running through the Ohio valley, 10-15 days on the Euro?

Yup...looks like we may be getting a little bit of a start on severe weather season. Pretty soon we'll be seeing these classic spring bombs with severe weather ripping through the midwest and blizzards from the central Plains into the upper-Midwest

I saw some posts there recently where trees were budding and some plants were flowering already. Spring is like 2 months ahead there.

Deny all you want but increased global temperatures have had a marked increased in higher QPF events. Yes, it. An still snow in a warmer climate for the naysayers.

yup.

there is a misconception that climate change means no more snow or no more cold...that is totally untrue.

There's still a balance in play it's just that warmth will win out in most cases. And occasionally you get very anomalous events like the freezing temps in South Florida.

This used to be pushed a lot more in the mainstream years ago versus now. I think there was a study like 8-9 years ago that went viral in mainstream about decreasing snow averages from CC....it projected something like a 40% reduction in mean snowfall by 2035 for cities like BOS and ORH. The study didn't pass the smell test to anyone who knows anything about snowfall climo or how it relates to temperatures/QPF combo....but it didn't stop the narrative being spread far and wide.

All this does is create misconceptions and distorted expectations....which then can be used cynically to discredit the idea of CC even existing. Some of CC's most enthusiastic proponents do the most to destroy its credibility in a twist of irony.
