i had a chevy colorado for years that was 4wd and it was great i have an awd traverse now and its ok, but it was the front wheel drive minivan that was stuck in the drift. i saw a lot of cars stuck last night; awd is decent in snow.

Melted total for storm just completed 1.55".  Snowfall 13.5".  Storm averaged ratio 8.71/1.  Started out at 20:1 then fell as the event progressed.

Temperature never got above 10 degrees through the entire event.  Hopefully this puts an end to the "it is so cold ratios will be beyond words" stuff.   Cold surface temperatures are not the driving factor in ratios.  Look aloft.

The ratios fell because of the sleet, compaction. During the height of the storm ratios were pretty high.

I had 30 minutes of sleet here.  Storm was a minimum of 95% snow.  It warmed aloft and the ratios fell.

Don’t question it, you measured it correctly, you should only clear the board once a day, when the storm is over, or changes precip type. There are a lot of inflated totals out there.

there was widespread 8-15 so who really cares....looking at massachusetts today and they are posting some big numbers in some areas, though most are not much higher than ours. in laws in maine getting ready. but they have tractors up there.....

I think on the island totals are pretty accurate. When you compare what the public reports versus the official reports from Upton and Islip, its usually dead on accurate and consistent. Trained spotters usually line up with the official sites as well, so its usually ok out here. 

There is one report from Suffolk from Fort Salonga at 14.5" which seems a bit high, but its extreme north shore so it's possible

Centre Island has 15.3” which I also think is probably high even though they’re right on the sound. Oceanside coming in with 11” is quite impressive right on the south shore and is likely even higher in the end since it was during heavy sleet. @uofmiami do you have a total?

12.2" was my total with 1.8" of it being sleet.  I agree that 15.3" reading is a little high IMO.

Finished with 18.5 in Hyde Park in central Dutchess county for a total of 46.5 for the season. It's been a great winter up here.
