OBS: 1/25-26 Snow/Sleet

central park 10.6 inches of snow as of 7:00pm nam was wrong in predicting lower snow totals..

Largest snowfall since moving here from Norwalk in 2014. Beats Feb 2021 which was 14.

Nice round of sleet added another 1/2” to the total, so I’m at exactly a foot between all the snow and sleet. 
 

Looks like that does it. 26.3 and sleet, 30” even on the season. It’s been real.

RGEM did well and was one reason I felt hopeful because it's usually a warm biased model.

Light sleet and freezing drizzle mix now, final snow and sleet accumulation (as long as there isn't any backside snow) was 11.7". Temp 27.0 on the dot

Back to light snow here I think? Although cant tell the flakes are so tiny it may be sleet or snow.

Temp crashing here now. Topped out at 26.8, down 2 degrees in 10 min to 24.4. 

As usual, lower level temps overestimated in these setups.

Yep. Just checked and its 100% snow, temp really crashed back, 23.7. Down 3 degrees in the last 15 min.

Pivotal weather showed pink briefly up to 84. Later runs showed it further south. And I know melted flakes (indicating a warm layer) were observed in Sussex and Putnam. I'd love to see actual balloon soundings to compare to model forecast soundings. That's the only way we can really assess the model performance. Pivotal weather's ptype graphics are a bit of a black box.

Crazy bust by all models on the surface temps. Most had my area getting to around 30/32 at 11 pm. It’s currently 22!
 

10 degree short term model bust by all mesos. Doesn’t matter for shit, but still a lesson to be learned when it comes to surface temps in a SWFE, always over estimated

Looks like about 12.2" will do it.  My temp is up to 12.  Some light flakes are still flying, but overall, looks like it's winding down.
It was a good one.  I've never observed 6 degrees and sleet before and may never again.  Wild.

I was supposed to be above freezing by like 1-2pm and stay there until midnight. I only went above 32 at 5ish and was back below by 7:30p. 

26 now and steadily falling. 

Also only had about an hour of actual rain, the rest was accumulating frozen precip. Storm was a crazy positive bust IMBY with respect to winter weather.

That's just crazy. The Euro and RGEM were showing 10+ for DCA and Philly for days. The RGEM and Euro had Morris County as all-snow for this event on their runs this morning!! It's been sleet or a mix for 9 hours!!!

Measured 10" slow/sleet and then an additional 1" of sleet after clearing for a total of 11". Nice storm!

accuweather was wrong for days they predicted 4 to 8 for the city and said if the sleet is delayed we could get a foot for the city.. the sleet was not delayed any nyc reached over a foot..
