I don't care one way or the other, just an observation. CT seems to cancel more. In my 50 years of life, most spent as either a student in upstate NY or teaching in western MA, annual snow totals have swung wildly but it’s basically always between 2 and 5 snow days a year. If it’s a snowy winter, schools toughen up make it harder to cancel. If it’s a snowless winter, you end up getting easier snow days to use a couple. People complain no matter what. CT Valley Snowman
I'm not home but I can't imagine things are looking very exciting from a snowfall standpoint. There was a coating when I left and temp is now up to 34 at the nearest PWS with very light precip on radar. Redevelopment later may be focused further NE and be to little to late here. moneypitmike
I know there will be a pretty wide range of totals over a short geographical distance......but it's possible I'll double the 9.5" on the season from this. I'll believe it when I'm clearing it.

I know some districts had done this. Its rare but it has happened. I think 2008 was the last time they did it here... even 2015 we didn't... just went super late into June

Patrick-02540
After today, probably 3.5" for the season here. Hopefully up to 9.5 by Saturday. I think about 12 is my area's average for December.

I don't even know how or why I know this because I didn't have any ties to the school system anymore but maybe just from West Hartford social media groups but I recall discussions about using days from April vacation because they had so many snow days and there were concerns because 1) you had to have 180 school days 2) you can't go to school past a certain date in June Was pretty crazy because growing up in West Hartford, we hardly ever had full snow days. We would mostly have late starts (60-90 minutes) or if a storm was coming during the day, dismiss early. K-12 I would say the number of snow days I had was under 10. I was community college during that one winter (think it was 2015) and taking Differential Equations...class met Monday and Wednesday's and we didn't have a single Wednesday class for like 3 weeks lol.

We used to be so upset because we'd watch the ticker at the bottom of the news and see all the districts around us closed but West Hartford either fully open or late start lol. But West Hartford did a damn good job with cleaning the roads which I'm sure was factored in.

At the time I owned a Toyota Corolla- BTW the worse finacial decision I have ever made...that car was awful in the snow. It actually got stuck in the snow several times going DOWNHILL!... The Toyota got totalled in Haverhill by a driver who ran a stop sign....I got out of the car and I shook the guy's hand while thanking him!!
