I've made plenty of good and bad decisions in my life. This move has been the best good decision by many miles. On top of cost of living, things like never sitting in traffic and beautiful scenery are quite valuable. People are genuine, honest, and helpful. Go to any store (even big box like lowes/wally) and employees are genuinely happy to help. Neighbors will help out for any reason and never be rude or intrusive. Rural living has drawbacks of course and I can totally understand why this type of life isn't for everyone but for us personally, our mental health has never been better and we've never been happier on a daily basis. 

Man I feel this with my whole soul. Growing up in CT pricing on everything, even back around 2012 was beyond outrageous (and far worse now). Moved down got established with my wife in SW Va.. just turned 38.. have 7 years left on the house.. vehicles paid off in May coming up and have managed to live a very comfortable life here. Property Taxes are a good 5-6k less per year easily. And to your point the folks here are super friendly and kind. Big shift from what I was accustomed to.
