Central PA Winter 25/26 Discussion and Obs

National high of only 78 at a few places in southern California and low of -28 in extreme northeastern Minnesota near the Canadian border.

Crystal ball says the next three days come in at an average temp of exactly 10 at MDT (crazy), bringing the monthly mean for January down to 26.5, which would be sandwiched between 2011 and 2015 for the 33rd coldest all-time.  Book it.

There is nothing like a blizzard on the seacoast.  Waves crashing, near hurricane force winds and heavy blinding snow.  It a must see event for any weenie.

My trip was an entirely solo trip. I'm turnin my frown updside down.  Despite the dud for this upcoming weekend, last few weeks have been and have felt like true winter.  Been a long time, and I'm enjoying every day we have snowpack.  Looks like pattern relaxes enough moving forward, that chances for clippers and maybe a well timed  NS/SS event could happen.  Stays cold enough for snow to hold. 

Lets enjoy what we have and not worry too much about what the next one looks like. 

It'll come. Till then....enjoy.

The GFS has the storm it showed 3’ snow two days ago for VA/MD now in Bermuda.

My truck wouldn’t start this morning, the battery was dead. I’m going to give it full charge and see what happens. 

Hopefully your car Nut is just a cold weather fix!
 

Canderson we will take what we can get. I don’t mind clippers.

I think 2009 was a year with a lot of clippers for me.

Today was our 6th consecutive day with temperatures failing to reach the freezing mark. The longest such streak was 16 days back in 1961. The current 6 days is already tied for the 10th longest freezing stretch in the philly burbs of Chester County PA since 1894. The current NWS Forecast has us remaining below freezing for at least for the next 7 days. If we were to reach next Thursday without cracking the freezing mark that would be the 13th consecutive day moving this current 2026 period to 3rd all-time. Below are the Top 10 consecutive freezing days on record.

Yesterday it got to twenty three.When the forecast was twenty today, we were at twenty six when the forecast was at nineteen severe surprise.At temperatures got that high.Considering, we were supposed to only be in the team

@canderson, if you have a few moments tomorrow or early next week, could you take a few pix of the river and post them here?  Right now with each passing day there must be less and less flowing water near the surface.  I'll be there next Tuesday afternoon on N Front, and I could also take a few as well.  Thanks!

sadly we often dont get a second snow storm after we just had a big one. so this long lived lie snow breeds snow I never bought. so many times the next storm misses or never forms. I think I only remember 2 times of back to back snow storms. one of them were back to back blizzards after the first one the meteorologist even said the chances of a second blizzard is nothing because it just doesnt happen. I mean we got the second storm but it rarely happens.

Unless it comes later, with the wind element along with the heavy snow, I can't figure out how Norfolk/Virginia Beach doesn't have a Blizzard Warning for this storm...

-13° this morning. Rabbit was out eating birdseed from underneath my bird feeder this morning. Which surprised me.

Been bouncing between -2 and -3ºF this morning here. 

Temperatures especially in the west and central this morning have ended up pretty close to the modeled temps of the coldest models (Euro/GFS). 

On the Mesowest network there’s several stations reporting -20 or colder, with a -28 near Slippery Rock.

On the Ambient network there’s a -22ºF in the Barrens region SW of State College, a typical optimal radiational cooling spot. 

Temperatures tonight will likely be even colder overall with more widespread below zero lows.

My lowest temp all week here at home has been 5.7. Low this morning was 6.4.

I honestly feel sort of underwhelmed compared to what models and forecasted lows were. I know, it's a weenie comment but there were several nights that were to be below zero and at least here, it hasn't been close to that once.

Interesting, I feel the same way.  Temperatures not dropping the way they usually do with snow cover.

6 was my ow. I was 9 at 10:30, surprised it didn’t drop. It is somewhat breezy so that might be why.

Lol  had my first rabbit doing the same at 630 this morning  bird seed is easy pickins for him, which also makes it easy pickins for the hawk that lives in neighbors pines.  Picked up 1/2 squirrel last weekend.  Hawk is well feed.

Yeah it hasnt been quite as forecasted, but 1 on digi this morning was cold enough.

Tonight may be best chance to get below zero in the southlands.
