There's a lot of pine and hemlock in there which account for a lot of the green. The older oaks here have some spotty change, but are still mostly green. He's obviously at elevation so I'd probably call that high color. Their current map has patches of high mixed with the mod. My Oaks are quite a bit ahead of schedule. Lots even down already . What I’m seeing on the leaves is either totally brown or a lot of black speckled leaves . So my guess is the wet , humid summer gave them some type of a fungus that causes early change and drop. 1

Angus
Hiked Red Hill in Moultonborough this afternoon. Easy hike with good views of Winnipauskee, Squam and Southern Whites. Tomorrow plan is to hike Willard in Crawford Notch. Swam for 20 min in lake in the morning - still pretty comfortable. You can tell the foliage is suffering from drought. Very, very dry.

alex
Well this mornings GFS has snow for those visiting on Columbus Day weekend. At least if the foliage is gone they’ll have something to look at!

Looks like he was on Little Moose Mt, and that area has a lot more spruce and fir than pine/hemlock, also very little oak. Beech tends to tarry in coloring (unless it's diseased) and some sugar maple turns significantly later than most of that species.

The big (24" x 90') red oak near the house still thinks it's August. Nearby white ash are almost bare, red maples near full color (even away from the swamps) while sugar maple is just beginning to color.

wxeyeNH
Another beautiful day. The foliage is weird or maybe it's just me being weird. The colors were coming on strong just before the rain 2 days ago. We did have some leaf fall during the storm but not very much. Now the tree leaves seem more green. I don't think that is possible but perhaps it's just what was turning colors did fall off the trees.

kdxken
In second thought the foliage doesn't look too early. The silver birches in the undergrowth usually yellow pretty quickly.
