Beautiful day, but we need rain again.  Drove over the Potomac and Shenandoah today near Harper's Ferry and there are lots of rocks exposed again... trees in my neighborhood are also showing signs of stress.

Still pretty good for this time of year...3.2' at Little Falls:

Years back, when I still could canoe, I think low flow was about 2.8 for float-n-fish trips. Water grows clear in dry periods too. Too clear. Fish notice these things. ;)

Today's weather gets a perfect review. Sounds like there's possibility of EWW being posted in the 2pm update.

I'm outside replacing some deck boards. Fucking amazing, except for one damn mosquito that keeps trailing me.

I restore decks for a living. Let me know if you need anything. This is rare air for this time of the year. It's amazing out here.

Thanks. Yeah its the usual aging treated lumber. I replaced some a few years ago, now a few more. They were originally nailed and ofc the ends of the boards split, the nails rust away and the top of the joists start to rot. Repairing that, doing some sistering in some cases, and offsetting the new boards as much as possible so the ends are attached to different joists. And using deck screws ofc.

Any experience in cleaning log cabins? Can't power wash-maybe at very low pressure- but no one I have hired ever does it right. Ends up uneven and with streaks and I have to go over it anyway.

What I have always done myself is scrub the logs from bottom up with oxyclean and warm water by hand and  rinse, then using a ladder as I go higher and continuing the process(scaffolding would be easier and safer lol). Works great but very laborious and it has gotten really old. I use a tinted Woodguard finish(oil based penetrating) and brush it on, which is also getting old. The result is fantastic but fuck am I getting tired of doing it every few years. The finish last longer than that but with all the farming around here, plus tree debris/pollen it gets dark and skanky looking pretty quick.

Feels like October out there.  So weird as they kept saying it was going to be hot again by the end of the week.  Need some rain but other than that pretty much perfect.

It will be getting hot by the end of this week. Actually starting midweek.

Doesn't look like we bake though- upper 80s-low 90s outside of the UHI.

I'll be out at the cabin fri-mon so hopefully I'll escape some of the heat out there.  It'll be getting toward the end of August by next weekend so I hope the July weather is in the rear view mostly for the year.

I'm going to have to figure this out too.   Luckily for an A-frame it's mostly just roof but the ends are board and batten stained pine so I'm going to have some maintenance I'm sure.  Maybe I'll just say F-it and only re-stain it every few years.  The more dirty it is the more it'll blend in to the woods.

Yeah I have learned to accept the darkening as long as the wood is still protected. My entire house(logs) is yellow pine. White pine on the interior walls. Luckily the inside was a one and done finish. It just ambers over time, which is a nice look- just have to make sure when you hang a picture that you don't want to move it years later lol.

Ha ha my interior is clear coat maple and I was telling my wife that the last time we were there...you only get one chance to hang something on the wall, better get the location right.
