NorthShoreWx
Very sorry for your loss. Reading this made me sad, but also happy that there are people like your dad in the world.
calculus1
So sad to logon and see this banner post at the top of the page. @jburns was such a good moderator, but an even better story teller. He had a quick wit, and I truly enjoyed his posts. He loved that Archdale snowstorm from back in the day. That grill photo was iconic. He was also quite proud of his weed yard, letting us all know it stayed green year round without any special attention, while the rest of us anguished over our turf diseases we were fighting. He also loved to talk of the snowstorms from the Floyd, VA, days. Those were epic winters, and some crazy times. I will miss him greatly on this forum. From all I experienced, you had a truly great dad, @RaleighNC. This place will not be the same without him. 2
Spidyr2k
J Burns meant a lot to this forum. Loved how he could lay a 'burn' on naughty posters. Happy trails, John, may the forecast be always interesting. <3
KChuck
Just saw this topic and it saddens me greatly. I looked on him as a close neighbor friend from the triad area though we never met. He was level headed in his comments and put downs when needed. Prayers for your family and as well said by many others he will be GREATLY missed!

RaleighNC
if any mods can help me dig those up or provide me with them,I know he put stuff up about my races. For selfish reasons, I'd really like to have those posts. Thanks, everyone.
wxdude64
Little late, but just want you to know that the small amount of interaction I had with your father was always a joy. It was easy to see that he loved weather and life in general. His humor was always spot on. Wishing you and family peace in this time.

My father, John Burns, who you know as your moderator jburns, passed away on Monday at the age of 77 after a battle with cancer that returned after he beat lymphoma in 2020. AmericanWX was really important to him, and I know he considered many of you to be friends. He became highly involved on this site after he suffered a heart attack about 15 years ago, and this became a key outlet for him and his love and impressive amateur knowledge of meteorology. Whenever there was going to be a storm in North Carolina, I had two sources to check: WRAL and my Dad. I remember him texting me before an ice storm was expected to hit Raleigh. No "hello," no "how are you." Just: "get a damn generator." He was absolutely never happier than when a snowstorm actually hit. He was known to drive hundreds of miles just to get into a blizzard. Thank you to all of you who made his later years fun and engaging. He loved it here. He loved arguing, he loved the weather, and he LOVED the ban hammer. John D. Burns Son of jburns Raleigh, NC Soo sorry for your loss. My condolences to ur family!!
