The area between Pikesville and Columbia (Catonsville area) has been hit all year. All that I got was a few drops out of this storm.

That outflow boundary that originated with the storms in SE PA and SNJ hours ago is initiating new storms on the upper eastern shore. A nice cell popped up around Chestertown and is heading in this general direction if it doesnt fall apart. With a 20-30% chance I didn't bother covering the mower. Maybe that was a good move lol.

Yup, having a moderate shower here currently. Could have been better, as the earlier storm missed to the East.

* At 906 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Oakland, or 9
  miles southeast of Centerville, moving southeast at 25 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is

That was fun. Gusty with lots of T&L. Direct hit. Picked up 0.85" in a hurry. There is a second line moving this way but it's a bit broken so we shall see.

Mower is all wet lol but no need to get up early and water plants! It gets dry here quickly if it doesn't rain for a few days this time of year.

The Ridgely MD Mesonet station picked up 1.10" in 20 min. That's impressive.

Yup that's 3 miles SW of me. Rain rates were impressive. I thought I had more but I am in the woods and my station has some tree branches overtop. Unavoidable here.

Just shy of 6.5" for the month here now.

Really wasn't expecting much of anything tonight given the forecast and the meso models. Sunday always looked like the better bet here. That would be bonus now.

The drought monitor says different lol. I know it's frustrating but your area is no difference than anywhere else. When the worm turns, look out. NAM brings storms into your area this evening.

On east side of Columbia …. had a trace around 9:30pm. Enough to wetten down grass etc. 

I could see the edge of the main cell and the intense lightning to my NE. And loud thunder, before everything headed away. Probably missed me by no more than 5 miles or so.

I checked the Acurite rain gauge on the deck this morning and it was over an inch. There was a brief power outage during the beginning part of the storm and I think the daily rain/rain event must have reset to zero. Not sure I have ever replaced the batteries. Last I looked before the power blip, 0.32" had fallen, so the total is more like 1.15".

I will probably relocate the station as the tree canopy has expanded overtop.

 

eta- The console batteries were definitely dead lol. shame on me. Now I have to go through the clunky menu and set the date, time, units etc.

Swwwwww... nasty out there. I worked in my garden this morning, cleaned my work truck, now off to wash a house in Ellicott City. Bob Chill, you're not alone grinding in this heat. I'll be ready for a tall lemonade, 200mg cookie, and a fat joint to go with a nice thunderstorm this evening.

The drought monitor shows normal but that's because it has rained plenty in areas all around me.  I can't tell you how many times I see a t-storm out my south-facing window as they roll thru Rockville/Gaithersburg, etc.  Some of those places have been hit 5-6 times since the last time I saw a drop.  I've let the lawn go and am just trying to keep my flower garden alive.  Leaves are even falling already.

And no, it will not rain here this evening or anytime soon

My entire childhood it seemed every storm went north of me and hit Glen Burnie. They still do. That place is a magnet for storms. I'd be interested to see a map of thunderstorm frequency over the past 100 years. It would be interesting to see if some areas do better then others. Besides the obvious areas like Stephen City lol

What I have is a bit of a rain shadow from higher elevations from W around to NE of me.  T-storms will break up dropping down, then reorganize just east.  Stephens City is a much worse example of this.

OT but I just checked the weather in Morehead City/Atlantic Beach area where our two kids went and they have an extreme heat warning for heat index of up to 115!  Oooooof

the core of that warned storm is going to go just south of me (good). the thunder is literally rolling nonstop and there are mammatus clouds overhead (too much lighting to go outside and photograph). and now it’s pouring.

Typical storm death as it approached mby, only to explode across the usual storm track over Strasburg.  Picked up .05" and have since been listening to constant thunder from that storm the last 30 minutes.  Oh, the frustration of living here.

Had a thundershower about 1/2 hour ago, cooled us off to 79.0/73.3 after an 89.1 high earlier. Only 0.06/0.07 in gauge eyeballing from the window but I'll take it after past few days of heat and dry.
