I figure this is as safe a place as any to post this.  Hear me out.. was just watching Fox Weather for more than 3 minutes straight for the first time.  I'll say this much - at 1AM they were covering - wait for it - weather.  Talking about the Dec 26/27th threat, naming each of the models, presenting what each is showing.  Not taking itself too seriously.   Beats the other late night weather options of When Tornadoes Attack or some such nonsense on TWC, or the Accuweather wall to wall equivalent of Local on the 8s interspersed with mattress commercials.  Just saying - not the worst thing to have on the telly in the background.  What's the saying?  Don't @ me bro...

It’s not bad when you just want weather. It reminds me of TWC from when we were kids. I think people definitely have preconceived notions that Fox Weather is just Fox News. I mean, that’s like thinking the NWS is the same as NPR because the parent is the same.

I noticed this as well. Found out when there was some weather event I was interested in while getting cardio done before 6am. TWC had one of those dumb shows on and FOX weather had actual not half bad coverage. Thats how I even found out there was a FOX weather channel.

They do a pretty good job and also stream on YouTube if not included in some cable packages.

The various weather channels going to other programming reminds me of MTV getting away from their core music video business and going to mostly reality shows.

The recent and upcoming weather has got me thinking.  Which of the following scenarios do you prefer:

1. Experiencing a 3-6" snowstorm right now, knowing it is going to be washed away by a rainstorm in 48 hours

2. Experiencing a dreary, misty damp day right now, but there's a 40% chance of 6-8" in 48 hours

I’ll take 1  the 40% chance ain’t good enough for me

Who else remembers the 1/3/14 (I think that was the date) blizzard? I must say That was probably the coldest snowstorm I have ever experienced here in NYC. Temps in the teens throughout and near blizzard conditions. 7-10” of fluff. Actual blizzard conditions further north and east.

1/29/22 was also very cold. Temperatures in low 20s and upper teens for whole storm. I’m surprised Queens wasn’t included in Long Island’s blizzard warning, I think it actually verified here as well.

Last blizzard warning was almost 9 years ago so we are definitely overdue. And that one busted, it was 3/14/17 storm. Instead of the 12-18+”, we ended up sleeting half the day and got 7-10” instead.

1/4/18 actually verified as a blizzard though, even all the way to Newark. That was a great bust in the positive direction. 3-6” expected the evening before the storm. Then winter storm warning for 5-8”, but it ended up being a 9-13” blizzard for NYC. Very cold storm also, and the windiest blizzard I’ve seen aside from 12/26/10

Was zoning out last night and put on Fox Weather. For years, I’d just zone out with TWC. It’s not bad and better than When Alligators Attack or Ice Road Bandits or whatever series TWC pushes in prime time nowadays.

I'll check it out.  I haven't had TWC in over 2 years.  I thought I'd miss it, but I didn't.

For the college football watchers, the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium between Penn State and Clemson is at noon Saturday.  If the storm works out as hoped, that'll be a fun game to watch, even if the snow is winding down by then.

Good catch, I had not thought of that one. I need to get my head back into the bowls, the CFP selection tainted my view a couple weeks ago... @BxEngine can relate and/or was jumping for joy I'm sure...

Was just talking to a colleague that directs over there. He said it’s actually one of his favorite places to work because there’s a lot of young people excited about the content. Glad it translates to the viewer.

Total bs

Right up there with Forky taking his shot post and disappearing and not leading the lemmings to the promised land. He's probably all tuckered out now after that post but I know I'm waiting for a some follow up. A Soundings 101 course in 2026 would be appreciated. :bike:

Dude, I had no issue with the U. I did with Bama but they proved themselves. Tulane and JMU...bro...they really need their own playoffs. Oh, and see you up north next year.

Agreed on those teams (JMU & Tulane) making it. Good luck getting CFP changing it but they should. ND & BYU should have been in over them.  Looking forward to next year up North.
