Obs and nowcast Major Nor'easter near blizzard Sunday afternoon Jan 31 - Sunrise Wednesday Feb 3

Drizzle, 33 degrees. Snow has definitely settled a little and became wetter with the drizzle/sleet overnight and this morning.

All that sleet following the 18" has turned the pack into a glacier. Really tough to shovel. 

With the coming cold and more snow likely this pack will last for a while.

12.5” in State College and 17.2” in NYC so this storm joins the list. I think the last of these was 1/27/2016?

Liquid total for the event = 2.25".

Snow total for the event = 26.5"

Ratio works out to be = Just shy of 12:1 on average.

Catching up now:  CoCoRAHS snow amounts  etc.  Meanwhile...interesting here in Wantage NJ.  My snowfall through 930A was 27", but my SD ~18... and looks blue in the footsteps. Plenty of water content. At least 2-3" via attached.

The map in much of Nassau and W Suffolk is low. Every recent report from this area was over 12” and it shows 8-12”.

Noticed the same "blue tinge" here as well.  Any idea what causes that?  I've noticed it in other deep snows of the past?

Hopefully Central Park can make it to 18”. Of course they might just decide not to measure if it’s just very minor additional amount.

Still snowing lightly in Whitestone, ended up with around 14" and a mountain of snow to dig out around my car.

I thought the models did very well nailing down the snow distribution. Most were targeting North Central Jersey and Eastern PA with the highest totals for days outside of the Nam which had a NYC/L.I. jackpot for a time on Saturday I believe.

Yes overall a very good performance. And recognizing the setup beforehand made it clear the jackpot would be in N NJ and S NY but other places could still do very well.

That last band of moderate to heavy snow delivered a 1/2" of snow, so we're up to 17.5" for the storm.

this lingering banding might get someone in nw nj to break the state record. it's 34" and so far the highest report is 33.2"

It's "interpolated" data and only uses official NWS measurements.  So all of western Suffolk County is represented by ISP which reported 11" and central Suffolk is represented by Upton which reported 14".

Boston only ended with 1-2”. Yikes. Central Park about 4” above them for the winter now.

Just saw Hicksville with the highest Nassau total at 17.6". Another yikes. I'd have to say that's a little high but the snow has compacted a good bit and has more water because of the light drizzle so who knows. Next door there's a lowball 9.7" in Plainview.
