Incorrect. Getting offended by every other post and derailing discussions is not making anything better. Add in the fact that there are a few little white knights following her around everywhere, this thread specifically has become unreadable at times.

Think about people who lack preparation. They die you jackass.

I'm a jackass?  That seems inappropriate.

People die evacuating.  People die because of bad evacuation decisions made by politicians in election years.

The coasts of the Carolinas have some of the poorest people in the country inhabiting the land.  Do you know this?  I do, very well.  A mandatory evacuation is a huge deal for them.  It's not a big deal for rich vacationing northerner invading the OBX or whatever for a week, but for those living in poverty, evacuation orders are a really big deal. And when they are this widespead, early, and wrong, it's an even bigger deal.

Also to the board "queen?", i never referred to this storm as a bust.  Reading is fundamental.

but sandy was just a more well rounded storm

in addition to the rainfall totals and surge we saw 3 feet of snow in west virginia.  florence isn't going to do that

All Sandy had was surge, there was barely any rainfall north and east of the storm.

Had Sandy not struck the most populated (and expensive) region in the US, the damages would've been moderate at best.

Alright, I'll bite..   Rita.  111 deaths DURING the evacuation.  There wasn't enough time.  Now,  public officials that you elect make the call for a mandatory evac so why are you here spewing about it?  This is a weather site.

I don't think you realize that in these cases "mandatory" does not mean what you think it means.  No one is drug out of their homes.  No one has police officers at their door saying "get out or you are under arrest".  If someone cannot physically evacuate, they wont.  stop being so naive...

wow, you're being naive...  people want to believe their public officials.  even if you're really poor, when the governor tells you to evacuate, you're going to consider it.  simply saying no because you're really poor isn't always the way it goes.  good gosh!      The costs of mandatory evacuations go way beyond whether a cop is coming to your door or not.  omg please stop talking.

Hello I just signed up this is my first post.

I would like to thank this forum and the very knowledgable people that share their knowledge and wisdom

It is because of this website I rode out hurricane Matthew and Now Hurricane Florence

Iam upset about the mass hysteria the media induced in the public. My wife freaked I kept telling her calm down look at weatherwx website these guys know what they are talking about. Sure things got hectic but I survived my wife panicked and evaced.  She was Just stinking hysterical Jeez! Thanks media!

AGAIN A BIG VERY HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE HERE WHO WERE TELLING  THE TRUTH AND NOT HYPING JUST TO SAVE FACE! KEEPING CALM AND MAKING ME FEEL SANE FOR THINK IT WAS OVERHYPED BOTH TIMES

That was from the heart now this is from my fist to the people who want to ban others for so called sh*t posting because they calling the hurricanes HYPED  WHATS THE MATTER WITH YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH FREE SPEECH? IF YOU DONT LIKE MOVE YOUR A** TO A COMMUNIST COUNTRY WHERE THEY DONT ALLOW FREE SPEECH. DO EVERYONE A FAVOR YOU FREAKING MINI HITLERS AND MOA'S

Go HEAD CALL MY POST (THE D*MN TRUTH) A **** POST AND DONT WORRY YOU THIS WILL BE MY LAST POST AS I REALLY ONLY WANTED TO EXPRESS my gratitude to the ones that deserve.

Solid first post, dude. Few tips - lay off capslock, makes you look uneducated/angry/weird. Also, the political stuff is even weirder. This is a private message board, the owners have every right to control the content. This also goes back to point one (looking uneducated) because you show that you don't really understand the constitution.

Where do you live?

sorry, I just don't get people second guessing evacs in cases like this...people get pissed cause the storm wasn't "bad" and then complain that the gov't was being cautious with peoples lives.  Get over it!  Had they not and it came in as a Cat 4 monster they'd be yelling that they should have had mandatory evacs...good lord!!

It has always been like this, the same things happen with any other weather event especially snowstorms.

I wish people understood all the possibilities instead of jumping on the most extreme one and going along with it.

Yeah if you ride the hype train, then anything less than a 10 will feel lackluster, which is extremely dangerous because then people let their guard down. You don't need a worse case scenario to get a lot of damage.

Wow 1-2 feet of snow in the interior mountains of West Virginia and Kentucky.  Must have been traumatizing for the tens of people who live there to deal with snow amounts which they are perfectly accustomed to.

I've been there. Once when the Susquehanna was going to flood and people wanted to ride it out and the next day trying to get a quadriplegic out of the second floor window into a boat, all because he father thought he knew better.
