I agree. Since 1950, there have been 12 4" or greater snowstorms in NYC during the last 10 days of December. Nine (75%) occurred with an AO-. When the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly was < 0°C, all six such storms occurred when the AO was negative.

Yeah, it looks like this was the strongest Arctic airmass that we'll see this month right before the heavier snows on Saturday. With the more +EPO/+AO

pattern coming up, there will be less cold air available for a snow event this big. But there could still be a smaller event or two for the rest

of the month if we get lucky.

The Texas panhandle is below zero and this is what we get.

Wow @ Austin. The high was 77 yesterday and the temp plunged from 66 to 42 in one hour. It's currently 26 there with wind gusts over 30 mph. Brutal-I don't think it was ever that cold when I was there. Hope the palm trees don't get damaged-although most palm trees there are somewhat cold-hardy like what you see in the desert southwest.

Temperature up to 57 now at NYC.

Very rare monthly high following the monthly low under 20 degrees December 14th or later.

The only other times I could find for NYC over the last 30 years were December 2004 and 2005.
