Update from IND

.NEAR TERM /REST OF TODAY/...
ISSUED AT 1012 AM EST MON FEB 17 2014

COMPLEX SITUATION CONTINUES TO EVOLVE WITH WITH MULTIPLE
PRECIPITATION TYPES OBSERVED IN THE PRECIPITATION SHIELD ACROSS
ILLINOIS. AM CONCERNED ABOUT TEMPERATURES ALOFT ALREADY BEING PLUS
3-5 ALREADY MOVING INTO SOUTHWEST CENTRAL INDIANA.

HOWEVER LARGE DEWPOINT DEPRESSIONS ACROSS THE AREA WILL LEAD TO
EVAPORATIVE COOLING AT THE ONSET. FEEL AT THE BEGINNING OF
PRECIPITATION A MIX OF ALL WINTRY TYPES POSSIBLE...BUT A TRANSITION
TO MAINLY FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL OCCUR FOR MUCH OF THE AREA
THIS AFTERNOON. ACROSS FAR SOUTH STILL EXPECT TRANSITION TO RAIN AS
TEMPERATURES WARM.

FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET MAY CUT DOWN ON SNOW AMOUNTS. HOWEVER AM NOT
COMFORTABLE MAKING SIGNIFICANT CHANGES YET UNTIL SEE EXACTLY HOW
SITUATION DEVELOPS AND HOW STRONG EVAPORATIVE COOLING IS.

PRECIPITATION ACROSS SOUTHERN ILLINOIS SHOULD FILL IN AS SYSTEM
STRENGTHENS...SO WILL MAKE NO CHANGES TO AFTERNOON POPS.

Pouring sleet here for the last 20 minutes or so.  Multiple slideoffs on the interstate.  Glad this happened on a day off so I didn't have to call off work again.attachicon.gif1005am.png

I'm in Morton and we had ZR for 20-30 mins, nice build-up on windshields and UPS driver was having trouble keeping his wipers from freezing up.

I seriously doubt we stay all snow. 50% snow would be quite an achievement. Things changing over to FZRA pretty far north in central IL...

But I don't think it will necessarily mean that's the way it'll be across IN.  I think you'll be fine up there in snow country..

Definitely looking ICY around the doughnut counties though..
