Yeah I've noticed that out here in RFD too. Temps not touching freezing but the snows no match for all sun. Everyday since the end of our warmup we lose a little more. Not sure how true that will be with single digit highs and sun tho.

Probably will pause until this coming weekend.

Clouds streaming in tonight now. Might be lucky to get some flurries.

while not perfect, this map represents my area pretty close.... still around 3' of snow in my 'hood.

with the cold temps, deep Winter will persist into March, no doubt.

attachicon.gifDLY_SNDP_MAPS-0.png

Shows 4-6" from Toledo up through Monroe county, and 8-12" in Wayne county...overall...not bad looking for this area. But what the heck are those two holes of almost nothing in northern MI? lol.

Daily record low max temps will probably be destroyed this week in Rhinelander, WI.  The forecast high temp on 2/28 is 13 degrees below the old record.  From NWS Green Bay:

RHINELANDER, WI

2/26

Record low max 0 (1934)

Forecast high 5

2/27

Record low max 10 (2009, 1922)

2/28

Record low max 17 (1996, 1980, 3 others)

Forecast high 4

3/1

Record low max 7 (1925)

Forecast high 2

I continue to think the setup on Thursday and Thursday night is quite impressive...strong CAA throughout the day with 925mb temps not getting above -21C....sfc high quickly settles in Thursday night possibly setting up one of the best radiational cooling setups we've seen all winter.

Yeah that is the night to watch. The other nights are too breezy for any radiational cooling.

This will end up being the coldest winter in my life (probably quite a few of us are included)...  nice!  7F and sunny

This has to be about the sunniest winter i can ever remember...other then the days it snows (Even those days we get some s un it seems), its sunny with no clouds.  The trade off to cold/high pressure.

I'd agree with that too.

Up to the predicted high right now.

We are forecasting highs in the single digits on Thursday at both of our climate sites, ORD and RFD. If that occurs, it will only be the 6th since 1872 in Chicago and only 3rd time since 1905 for Rockford with highs less than 10 deg in the last week of Feb or later.

Well here are the records to watch for at MKE....

Feb 26th

Low Max: 7 (1888)

Low Min: -6 (1879)

Feb 27th

Low Max: 6 (1888)

Low Min: -12 (1879)

Feb 28th

Low Max: 9 (1884)

Low Min -12 (1884)

Since it looks like we will see a midnight high on Thursday, the record low max looks safe and honestly, all these records should be safe. Its a shame we might go though a top 10 coldest winter without breaking any records....

pretty brutal day today. temp hovered in the 8-10 degree range with off/on snow... only 1.5" today but its been pixie type snow blowing around bad and creating low visibilities most of the day. have had to blow my drive 2 times today due to powder blowing around. looks like another high impact type wind/snow tomorrow afternoon and night even if only 2-3" fall as forecasted ( APX tossed around the idea of a W.S. watch). the lake really is a wild card at this point.
