NEXtreme Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 This prolonged quiet stretches actually worry me more than anything as it's almost like a buildup of energy until a huge storm occurs, like with Sandy last year. Instead of small systems to even things out, you get large quiet breaks and then infrequent but very powerful, dangerous systems. I think that's what many climate enthusiasts and global warming experts feared. They said something about less weak to moderate weather events/storms and more powerful storms/systems. . When there's big storms it's global warming. When there's small storms its global warming. When's there's less frequent storms its global warming. When there's more frequent storms its global warming.... I get it. But hey, you want some big storms? Look up the 1950's. Always go and look back. Weather did not start in the past 10 years. Just to my north, in Califon, they've probably had at least 3 inches of rain. Down here probably no more than an inch. Nice thunderstorms earlier this morning though followed by the occasional passing cell full of heavy rain. But nothing like the pounding in north Hunterdon. just unreal heavy rain in Somerset County right now.. street flooding all over the place.. easily 3 to 4 inches must have fallen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's still pouring at the moment, but the thunder/lightning is long gone. Haven't been home to check the rain gauge, but I'd estimate 2"+ easily since this morning. SACRUS Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 Trend continues for some impressive late summer heat and huge ridge into the nations mid section. we're on the eastern cusp of this much of next week but signal is there for some heat to blast into the region labor day weekend and into the week of 9/2...... Isotherm Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 Agree Sacrus. I think Labor Day weekend will likely be hot nationwide, including the Northeast. Next week is a bit iffy with the peripheral differential advection riding the heat ridge in the Plains. I could see a couple days where we're below normal with rain/clouds while other days we break out into sun and are warm/humid.
