Starting to perhaps agree. We just need to train ourselves to wait our turn. Maybe we can get a good pattern going of 2-3 years off and 1 year on.

Be careful what you wish for. Since RIC became the new RDU, we have seen feast-or-famine to the extreme here. Not a single storm over 10-11" since 2000 at the airport (and that's with fairly accurate measuring/corrections) and nothing over 14" since 1983.

I hope that climo line doesn't creep northward. Wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemies.

So pumped this storm is going to happen for you guys, you're long overdue for a decent hit.  I remember the lead up to the blizzard and how sweet it was to finally get crushed after such a long snow drought.

Good luck down there!

Thanks!  Been a long journey but I'm so glad we're finally cashing in.

I totally agree but you have it backwards. 2-3 hecs every 1 year is correct. Next year will have 5 at least to make up for the last 2. This storm is only a clipper on the grand scheme.

Could totally see next year being big if we get Nino. Didn't 08-09 end with a bang ?

Any early bets on which ski areas make out the best from this one?  I am talking real ski areas, i.e. not Liberty/Roundtop/Whitetail.

I am debating whether to head to Snowshoe or Canaan/Timberline on Thursday.  That is, if the roads are passable to get to either.

I realize this may be the first time in recorded history that Massanutten gets more snow than either of those two but I am still not going there.

My bet is on Canaan/Timberline since Snowshoe looks to be a little SW of the main axis of precip, but I fully admit that I don't know what I am talking about.

It's too bad that there are so damn many trees on Bull Run Mountain.  I can see it from my window.  I would ski that mofo all day long tomorrow.  As it is, I will be the lunatic on randonnee skis on Gum Spring Road tomorrow, skinning up and skiing down the berms in front of the quarry.
