Temps have started back down here in St. Johnsbury after a daytime high of about -1.5.  My point and click low for Peacham tonight has been lowered to -25 for tonight.  I think we under-perform as it looks like a very weak system is coming down from Canada though the Great Lakes is leading to a gap in the coldest air for tonight. Plus I wonder if there will at least be some cloud cover here from that and in Maine from the clouds retrograding in from the NNE.   Here are 850 and 925 maps showing the "gap" in the coldest air ahead of the clipper.  I am not seeing int mentioned by BTV so I could very well be wrong.

tomorrow is going to be a nasty day as the gradient tightens. soundings show G 35 to 40 mph out here. flow also bends more NW so wonder if OES can sneak into parts of this area.

Yeah cold and pretty gusty... mixing depths look a lot lower than today. NAM 2M temps peak at like 13 at BDL. May be a downslope assist though so would prefer due N for real cold delivery here.

yeah it may end up a notch above today but the wind may make up for it (not that it was quiet today). few days ago it looked like tomorrow might be more of a "quiet" cold but not so much anymore. 40 knots at 950-850 mb by afternoon

After the low depart Saturday...another nasty shot. Next weeks mild up may just be that. If that.

MJO is heading to pants tent octants.

Yeah we have solid Pacific forcing. A short mild up or maybe even just a muted mild up then back to the freezer. We are just rolling craps right now... we're going to start rolling some good numbers soon.

Indeed, the Waits River, which the main-stem for my neck of the woods before dumping into the CT River at Bradford is very choked with ice.  And more will certainly be added over the next couple of days.

It's nothing like this yet, but here's how it can get, as it did in January of 2010 (after a thaw, I should add):

11/-9, good chance I am pretty well below zero  maybe -2/3. I always thought Sunday AM could be a sneaky cold morning with fresh snow cover.

Not boring.

I don't mind this cold at all... it's really not that bad. I was snowboarding (or learning to) at Mohawk in Cornwall this morning and it was great. Wasn't cold at all. The snow wasn't very forgiving but that's OK lol.

I think a few towns like Falls Village and Bakersville tickle -10 tomorrow morning.
