Occasional Thoughts on Climate Change
WolfStock1 replied to donsutherland1's topic in Climate Change
"need to be financially punished for all the damage they've caused" Isn't this based on the premise that they've done more damage than the benefit they've provided? If so - what would be your basis for that judgment / assertion? Can you provide some rough estimate of what you think the numbers would look like? If not - if the premise is instead just that they've done *some* damage to the environment - then why would you limit it to the fossil fuel companies? Wouldn't you want to also financially punish *every* entity that has done some damage to the environment? And if so - wouldn't that literally include *every* entity, since every entity in the world - including you and me, has done some damage to the environment? -

Yeah it's mostly machine learning data correlations and such as far as I've heard, but I'm not sure that the specifics are really well understood by the weather community anyway. Actually there was a little segment about the deep mind and Isiais on NPR this morning and they were saying how mostly the project is worked on by non-meteorologist, not even programers with meteorology experience, mostly neural network engineers

The last accumulating snow here in October was 6 years ago….so it’s not all that normal, despite the BS.

This is just an observation, in 2019 and 2024 the canonical nino look on guidance would often make it as close as about day 7-8 on the guidance, then evaporate back out to day 14 or 15 and repeat. In the next few weeks it would be a very good sign if this look at at week 2 actually becomes a reality. If it starts remaining locked at hour 300+ then the models may be doing the same thing they did in the last 2 nino's. I have no insight here other than observing this trend.

Doesn't rain for 3 days= drought.

Don’t we already have flood emergencies/warnings already?
-
does anyone know what the strange lights over wallops island last night were all about?

Would be cool to see it snow along the front range in October, but I'm trying to keep my hopes in check. I'll take any precip we can get, and hopefully the mountains see more snow this month. Realistically it will take time to crawl out of this drought - I just hope to see continued improvement!

I am assuming that the AI models use historical tracks and climatology more so then the physics models. From my understanding of AI. Not your typical analogs but everything that’s possible. If anyone has more information on the subject I would love to hear it. .

Which likely means this favorable pattern transforms into an unfavorable pattern in Dec/Jan timeframe. Would be great if we were seeing this in December instead. Instead we get GNR weather, though it may be snowier over the interior/NNE.
