FWIW TWC said 12 to 18 and any brief mixing will not affect snow totals. -
-35 to -40 dew points in heart of cold air mass in SK and MB would indicate potential for -40 to -45 F minimum temps in parts of ND and MN tomorrow morning, probably -30 to -35 F coldest spots in n WI. ... will guess -22F at Madison and -20F outside Chicago urban heat island. This will spread into MI and ON but Friday night will be coldest there. Fifty years ago I recorded -41F at a home weather station in central Ontario (Jan 22, 1976), it was so cold during the day (-20s F) that they had to send big tow trucks to start little tow trucks that were trying to start cars. And that was cars with block heaters. (my location was about 20 miles south of YQA).

I mean as of right now sleet is likely to cut down on totals for a large chunk of the subforum no matter what some of our posters say. -

We ran into Costco for one thing after getting gas and it was pretty dead too. -
Yes, the European (EURO/ECMWF) weather model successfully incorporated data from American Hurricane Hunter dropsondes for the major winter storm affecting the U.S. West Coast around January 20–22, 2026. Key Details on Data Integration: Active Assimilation: The 00z ECMWF run on January 20, 2026, was specifically noted as the first to incorporate the dropsonde data, which caused the model to "flinch" and adjust its forecast northward.

ah yeah that's right - he came from Boston. They obviously needed to shake things up. I still think fundamentally the problem is the Lerners, but hopefully we can make some progress. -
The upcoming snowstorm will likely join a relatively small number of storms that brought 6" or more to all of the following cities: Baltimore, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Many of those prior storms were epic storms. The list since 1950 is below. In short, not only will this storm likely be New York City's biggest snowstorm in nearly four or five years, it could be a really special event, too.

Thanks. Doing great. Taking lagevrio, mercks new antiviral. Knocked the snot out of it. . -
A snow/sleet mix at worst.

I think the top 3 are safe. Jan 96, Jan 2000, Feb 2006 After that the next tier for DC/Balt are 6-12” storms like 1965 and Jan 2011 which this could fall into or surpass.

believe it or not, actually cut back nearly half from 12z. Was showing 40"+ in the prior run. Nice to see an active pattern being modeled. -
Someone else mentioned today about the January 2024 storm how the GFS was more accurate and it really was considering how much of a mess the GFS has become. WVLT rode the Euro with their forecast and busted big time. I have a feeling this storm is going to be very similar to the January 2024 storm, except swap the snow with ice.
