Sorry to grave dig but just saw this. We only received a few sleet pellets from this event, but in June of last year (June 22, 2025) we received about half an inch of snow that the local recording station appears to measured as a Trace. Typically we get snowflakes most Junes and Septembers, although it often doesn't stick.

Seems that the MCS in Ohio is doing rather well with the 0z NAM initializing it correctly. Should roll through around mid-morning and bring some nice rainfall/storms with it. The soundings for the afternoon are impressive kinematically but lack instability despite our 70 degree dewpoints. I think it'll be a day where if a cell manages to pop ahead of the evening/nighttime line of storms it could produce a TOR. Only question is if/how many will happen.

MJO has certainly been hugging the 6-7-8-1 this summer. If that carries into the winter it'd be a nice change to continuous 4-5-6.

1988 was a hot summer, but came to an end in mid-August. The last 90-degree day at PHL was on 8/17. That one turned cold so fast, and produced one of the coldest Octobers of all time, even colder than 1976.

With PHL's 90 today its their 38th of the season and move the to their most ever 12 more than EWR (26) so far.

I am so happy about this super nino. It is going to be amusing watching so many torrential storms pile up water in the southeastern US this autumn, winter and in Spring 2027!

It’s been fascinating to watch the impact on the structure of the hurricane too. This is the best it’s looked, but once it passes to the west it should get disrupted for a bit.

I am very intrigued about this winter. There is so much oceanic heat wrt normal (what the hell does that mean anymore) that anything is possible. I've seen more than one long range forecast that depicts areas N of 40 deg being at or even a little below normal due to the wobbly 'polar vortex'. I think that's a long shot but by using the Tug as a base of operations, all else being equal, it's certainly positions us better than most. I did a chase up in Canada two years ago and it was a lot of fun and there are some serious bay effect areas SE of James/Hudson Bay. Ironically, Canada's plowing suuuuucks, so I have what amounts to seat belts for my tires. It's designed to be a bit more pleasant to drive on than traditional chains while still providing traction. I also purchased a Bluetti that will essentially turn my truck cabin into a living room for up to 3 days so @dailylurker and I can be completely mobile. If it's 38 and rain in New York, welp, filler up and head north.
