2026 Severe Wx - General Thread

12Z HRRR and nest both became rather interesting for this evening from the state line into Chicagoland. Maybe what I thought might happen (in daylight) yesterday, will happen today. -
Winter 2026-2027 Seasonal Outlook
BooneWX replied to WinstonSalemArlington's topic in Southeastern States
We can stop guessing folks! Snowbird Bob on Facebook says to expect above/much above average snowfall in the South. -
Yes it only takes one storm to make a season in the South. Perfect overrunning, a bowling ball, or an actual open wave bomb. Yeah, the latter seems less likely every year, but the other two still happen. Then it depends on location. 2025 was a rare, great winter for Chattanooga. January featured back-to-back snows including one that way overachieved by not going to ice sooner. Rest of the forum seemed unimpressed by their event(s). But yeah, my main forecast is warm and rainy with occasional severe weather. Long time readers are used to my severe saber rattling.

Solar max or solar freeze your ass off minimum..this is still a great time to get out and keep that glorious nape going strong or perhaps get it going for the first time if you’re one of those unfortunate chilly loving punks! -
Yes its fizzling fast

main line comes through this evening BUT some areas MIGHT experience a pop up storm prior IMO

Mainly for entertainment: The image below is the TT 2m mean of the last 12 CFSv2 ops for Feb ‘27. It is extremely cold from the C Plains to the SE US with anomalies of -8 to -11 F even vs 1984-2009 climo, which is a bit colder than 1991-2020! It’s just about as cold there as the frigid Febs of 1978, 1958, and 1905 and is a bit colder than Febs of 2015, 2010, 1968, 1963, 1947, and 1902. It isn’t quite as cold as the record coldest, 1895: -
Legit laughed out loud at that output. What do you mean an Illinois MCS won’t do a U-turn and move northwest and slam into another random MCS in Iowa?

Augdewst 2026: Summer's Last Stand

We probably step off the summer plateau on Wednesday. After 42 days (July 1 thru tomorrow) with our mean between 65 and 66, August 12 is likely to be 64.xy, as the long slide begins. (The equivalent winter bottom is much shorter - the period within 1° F of the current coldest, 13.55°, is only 12 days, January 18-29.) -

Yup...which is why they are my two top polar analogs. -
Looks like 23-01z. Some models suggest activity tomorrow well north of the mid-Atlantic activity, likely keying in on a boundary or subtle shortwave but I'm thinking tomorrow is dry
-
its shrinking as it moves east - also there are no severe warnings with it SPC about 2 hours ago thought a watch was possible but no watch has been issued
