  1. Past hour
  2. Getting hit by multiple storms this evening.
  3. It seems that NAO is far more malleable and influenced by the solar cycle and ENSO than the AO, so I feel strongly that the AO will be lower than the NAO this season.
  4. Mike Masco doesn't say but explains NYC weather
  5. Well, I do see an opportunity for some of that, but I'm speaking of the seasonal mean. it clearly will not be the predominate DJFM pattern.
  6. Saw a post on FB about three Tornado Warnings in the UP at the same time. A rarity for sure
  7. What model was the basis of this idea?
  8. Then again...clouds are one of our most common failure modes. I do think someone will get walloped tomorrow. But I might have been inclined to keep it at 30% with no CIG hatching. The CSU MLP guidance has not painted any 45% contour at all on today's runs. That said, the 30% on that guidance *is* centered over the DC region.
  9. I think its time for Mr. G to hang it up
  10. After a little break from the heat this week it's coming back next week. Up to 0.22" for the day.
  11. the smoke is still here. still ranging between 3-8SM at all obs sites across ne il.
  12. Thank you for checking it out. The Dauphin county youtube channel has some good stuff. I really enjoy the friends of Wildwood and Friends of Fort hunter lecture series. https://youtube.com/@dauphincounty?si=Uhbac1Gt5xRdxPjr
  13. You are free to leave anytime you want, bruh’! I bet there’s a few on here that would even come help load up the moving van for you.
  14. Should see that -PDO continue to weaken into the Fall as the CTKW’s move north along the west coast and the upwelling from the california current weakens as the N Pac high begins to take a beating.
  15. This afternoon's line of storms was gusty, like the morning line, but it was weakening as it moved through and didn't last long. I only got 0.38" this time. We were not able to recover enough after the first line.
  16. Today
  17. Yea. Unless you live in a high prone power loss area, i don’t think WHG’s are worth it. It looks cool and is obviously super convenient but if you run the numbers for a mid sized home that rarely loses power (less than once/5yr), it’s a loss. If folks have the extra cash in this brutal economy, sure…get it. But I would recommend a good portable generator for everyone else.
  18. 18z HRRR largely clouds over the warm sector tomorrow. Hard to see that happening.
  19. WPIX trying to increase their ratings or decrease them ?
  20. When you factor in real-feel, nearly a 50 degree drop from the peak of the recent heatwaves. Low temps in the 50s will feel so foreign after this recent stretch! I love our climo! Just when you think things are starting to get extreme and unrelenting Mother Nature gives us a nice respite. Same thing in the heart of winter when the bitter cold stretches are followed by a nice thaw.
  21. Nice! Yes it's very beautiful around the area.
  22. Welcome to mby Not the cliffs, but in the area and yes, it is pretty here
  23. A cooler regime is in place and will remain in place for an extended period of time. Highs will generally reach the upper 70s and lower 80s through the week and into the start of the weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are likely tomorrow into Wednesday. Some areas could pick up heavy downpours with flooding a possibility. Daily rainfall records for July 21 include: Atlantic City: 4.60", 1969 Bridgeport: 2.16", 1961 Islip: 2.69", 1984 New York City-Central Park: 2.26", 1983 New York City-JFK Airport: 2.45", 1948 New York City-LaGuardia Airport: 2.06", 2006 Newark: 3.23", 2006 Philadelphia: 3.45", 1988 Wilmington, DE: 3.80"m, 1988 The long-term outlook for the remainder of July has swung to near normal or even somewhat cooler than normal on the guidance. The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.1°C for the week centered around July 15. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.82°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer. The SOI was -21.79 today. The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.825 today. Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 64% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.8° (0.7° below normal). Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.3° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
  24. We don't do widespread severe around here. In my 47 years of life in this area I've seen widespread severe once or twice. It's normally very localized like what happened in Pasadena a couple days ago. Even the day La Plata was hit with the EF 5 was pretty lame. That Southern MD super cell was the only game in town that day. I remember thinking it was a bust until I heard about the GOAT tornado. The derechio was the the most widespread severe I've seen.
