Also creates more disease vectors, more allergies, damaging frosts/freeze cycles into the winter/spring. All this depends on how long this abnormal weather lasts. A few days is fine but anything over a week and problems compound. There are minuses for sure. One can pick and chose what to focus on (negative or positive) and have a field day w/ that, but what matters is the overall net-net after all is considered. Concerning diseases/colds, they are less b/c ppl are outside more and open their windows in warm cool season wx, not confined indoors as much in closed spaces. My point is there is overall balance in the mean. The environment and life can handle it well long-term. It has for millions of years though much more radical times than recent decades. And for very mild winters? From a societal POV (lives and $$ saved/not spent), it is overwhelming positive. WinterWolf
I’m enjoying the quiet weather…cold mornings, mild to warm afternoons, and no rain to dirty my truck…I like that. Washed it a week ago…still looks excellent. Not too often that happens around here. 1

I was assuming that Spokane was the typical Pacific Northwest…which was cool and moist and overcast. But I was wrong I guess. My mistake. And if they get as much snow as most of us…that’s not too shabby. Good for them. Yeah I skimmed ahead. I lived on the west coast 1976-91 so I got pretty familiar with the climo. Also, when I was in my 40s-early 60s I was a serious runner and I had my eye on going up to Spokane to run the Lilac Bloomsday run in Spokane. So I explored the climate especially since it had winter which I did without for 15 years.
vortex95
As @CoastalWx sometimes says, "too much Judah praising!" See screenshot attached. Not that Cohen does not know his stuff and posts good wx content, but I've seen lofted praise b/c he is local and has been featured on newscasts. One person I know who knows Cohen well keeps telling me, "he is so smart and a nice person!" Ooookay, but what does that have to do w/ fcst skill level or having valid/correct results? I see this a lot, the personal/subjective ("I know this person") interfering w/ the professional/objective. I don't care for his levity and cute quips on his social media posts. if you want to be taken seriously, don't do that, not for a general audience. A closed forum where everyone knows each other (like here) is different. Also, there is more to hemispheric patterns and winters in NAMR than the PV and Siberian snow cover, esp. when it comes to direct sensible wx in one region (i.e. New England). @CoastalWx can speak better than I on this!

CoastalWx
It’s kind of funny I’ll look at my thermometer and then as I walk outside in the dark to go to the gym, you can hear the leaves rustling in the wind. The wind just does not stop on my hill.

It's remarkable ... the autumn of the great unbalanced RAD proficiency continues. It's 48 at ORH ap, 28 here... Granted that's 800' of difference but 20F is about as extreme a still morning difference/RAD result as I've ever seen.

Typhoon Tip
Yesterday boasted the grandest diurnal change I've seen 'round deez parts... 44 to 46 F swing was common within 10 miles of my location, both home stations and tweener NWS sites. [EDIT, 38-43 ...helps when you're not looking at WC columns. still impressive] Today may exceed that differential.
