Thunder and lightning for 90 minutes.  Picked up .13".  Kept going south of me and north of me, again.

Was woke up at 5:10 this morning by one very loud crack of thunder. No lightning and no other thunder. Got .08” of rain.

Up at the cabin, holy cow ..this pic was during the tornado warning.  You can see it's raining so hard it's literally spraying off the roof!  It almost looks more like snow.  

Nice setting there. I know its code but now that you are past all that crap, you should remove that railing on the left side of the steps. Its an eyesore. Much cleaner look without it. Removed mine on both deck stairs years ago when I replaced the steps.

Don't look now folks but you have a couple more blobs coming in from the Midwest.

It's going to be rain blob after rain blob, especially once that Nino really starts exerting on the 500 millibar pressure layer in the United States. Washington DC is right in the right front quadrant so to speak of the Nino's rain shield. You guys are going to get really tired of rainfall soon. Right now you are getting missed and people are eyeing the ledges because of rain hunger, but this is a 6C Nino and it means serious, serious bisnass. It will not spare and it will have absolutely no mercy at all. Flooding for some communities will become a way of life. Just ask Asheville, North Carolina.

Damnit Indiana, Pennsylvania is catching up to Buda. We have actually been leading the Nation in so far this year rainfall tallies, with 35.7 inches, but Penn is catching up quick. At one point we were 9 inches ahead of them. Soon the Nino will have that place and the DMV in the 180s of inches while Buda will be STUCK in the middle 30s because we are way too far west in an incredibly record east-based Nino.

This late summer, autumn, winter and Spring 2027, if you don't like rain, DON'T BE IN THE DMV, THE SOUTHEASTERN STATES OR THE MID-SOUTH GULF STATES (excluding Texas) Or in Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, places like that. East Texas will whiff cirrus on this nino.

The DMV will soon be actively exploring all the different ways you can get drenched by excessive rain. Front will get hung up over DC. Torrential rain will soon follow. Blobs will invade you from the northwest, adding to the saturated ground. DO NOT BE NEAR ROCK CREEK. A storm will somehow manage to retrograde in from the ocean and you will have a chilly marine layer plus heavy soaking rain. Ordinary lows will move in over you from the southwest, loaded up with heavy rain from the roided up jet stream. It will also become quite chilly because Nino loves to bring cooler than normal temperatures. It's going to be a long autumn, winter and spring next year.

Yeah we originally thought to just get the chainsaw out and cut that off but as I am aging and winter is long and cold up there I appreciate having a handhold so I don't slip and break my back.

Why are the mosquitoes so bad this year?  It's the worst year in the past 24yrs I've lived here.  It makes no sense, we had drought last year, the coldest winter in decades and then more drought this year up until just recently.  I'm lucky in that I don't get actual itchy bites, but they're annoying as heck to swat off.

I don't think the hideous creatures mind cold. I concluded this after years of visiting the North Country where the mosquitoes are more plentiful/annoying than here. Sorry, I don't have an explanation either.

There eggs lay dormant until there is enough rain I believe.

They always survive cold. Think about it- some of the worst areas for mosquitoes are well north in Canada after snow melt.

Right now our area is dealing with the invasive Asian tiger mosquitoes, which need very little water to continue the cycle. They are tiny and only bite during the day. Once its dark, sit outside and have a cocktail. For me they itch like crazy when they bite, but its very brief, and no welt.

I get itchy bumps and found a few around my ankles the last couple days. I’m not even sure where they came from, though I was standing outside talking to people on a few occasions which is sometimes all it takes. That said, there’s been worse seasons imo. Totally opposite of the Vegas area where you can leave doors open and hardly get any bugs flying in.

Yeah they were way worse in Michigan than even this year down here so I know they survive cold.  This year is just anomalously bad here, it's like some sort of boom cycle.  They bite me and as they bite me it hurts so is obnoxious.  But after that I never get any sort of bump or itchy welt like I used to when I was a kid.  

I also used to get covered in chigger bites for the first couple years when I moved down here but now I don't even get one all summer.  Guess my immune system has just gotten lazy with age and doesn't even bother mounting a response anymore.
