Update on John Homenuk ("earthlight" from his days on these boards)

Doing better but sounds like he had an awfully close call.  Scary stuff.

Best to him.

Especially with no family history and being in such good overall health

Tomorrow will be fair and warm. A storm will bring rain and possible thunderstorms to the region during Tuesday and Wednesday. The potential exists for a general 1.00"-3.00" rainfall with some locally higher amounts.

Following the storm, Thursday and Friday will see a continuation of below normal readings.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.1°C for the week centered around July 15. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.82°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -31.64 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +1.391 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 92% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.3° (1.2° below normal).

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.2° below the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

The real difference is that 2009 was near record cold throughout in June and July. This year has had wild temperature swings (since March). The first half of June was warm. The second half not so much. The first half of July was warm. The second half of July is going to be cold.

It's an interesting coincidence. There's really no close comparison. I also doubt that the coming winter will be a close comparison.

This enso is closer match to 2015 / 1997 - August will be interesting to see 2015 very warm/hot/ dry, 1997 cool/ drier.

No nyc temp crying the past few days when they were the same or on the higher end of the area.  I guess there is only an issue "certain" cherry picked days.

Maybe someone was in there pruning  :-) If it could only stay like that for the other 125 days in the warm months rather than veering 2-5 (7)  lower.

 Rank Year   Overall Match Reason
1 1997–98  Best Strongest blend of rapid onset, strong SOI/MEI coupling, Niño 3.4 surge, and eastern-Pacific warmth
2 2015–16  Very High Strong basinwide/very strong El Niño analog; excellent intensity match
3 1982–83 High Major historical El Niño; slightly slower early-summer SST match but excellent peak analog
4 1972–73 High Classic eastern-Pacific strong El Niño analog
5 2023–24 Moderate-High Good recent transition/eastern-Pacific analog, but weaker coupling/intensity than 2026 appears headed
6 1957–58 Moderate-High Strong El Niño year; useful secondary analog
7 1991–92 Moderate Decent atmospheric/coupled analog, but weaker structure
8 2002–03 Moderate Developing El Niño analog, but less intense
9 1965–66 Moderate Useful older warm-event analog with eastern-Pacific elements
10 2009–10 Lower-Moderate El Niño winter analog, but weaker summer development

Been saying this for years. There is an agenda here. Easy to see why Central Park would be cooler than the concrete hell holes that LGA and EWR are.

Now the concrete hellhole airports may be more representative of NYC climate as a whole, but that is another discussion.

That is vastly different then the pushed conspiracy theory that CPK temp readings are wrong

Buddy. When it’s 90 in Montauk and Weshampton and JFK and 86 in the park, it’s not an agenda or a conspiracy, it’s a temperature that’s not representative of the area. Don’t tell me it’s cooler in Central Park than all of the coastal terminals in early summer. Enough.

NYC can have a similar temperature as Newark on days with S to NE cooler onshore flow. Newark gets a cooling breeze off the bay and Central Park doesn’t since it’s not right on the water like the airport at Newark is.

A few days ago with more offshore flow Newark was warmer again since they didn’t have a cooling breeze.

The days when the trees have a more significant cooling influence relative to the airports are more offshore flow days with SW to NW flow at Newark.  Also cloudy days since this removes the cooling influence of the trees when it’s not sunny.

Onshore flow similar temperatures
