Total for yesterday 3.10".  Two rounds.   Early morning 1.72" in about 45 minutes.  Second round with tornado warned storm early afternoon dropped 1.37" in about 15 minutes.  Finished with .01" during the evening in a quick moving light shower.

I'm good with rain for a while.  Need some time for the ground to dry out.  No need to water here anytime soon. Everything is as green as it could possibly be.

@bluewave posted above the next big ridge looks to be centered more west over the western plains or Rockies.  Watch for weak downstream trof over the east.  Depending on placement that could signal another round of wet weather.  A trof axis over the Ohio Valley or along the Appalachians would make for a wetter go around here.

Do you happen to have any rainfall rate information from your station? I'm at 9.74" for the month making it the second wettest July for me, only topped by 2023 with 13.95". My average is 4.85". Interesting to note that I had .08" more in the Stratus than in the Davis which had to be due to splash out from the Davis in the 12.52" per hour rate for five minutes followed by a 11.76" rate for five minutes around 9:30pm last night.

That sorta reminds me of when I was a kid in the early 50’s and we used to play tag with, what we called, sun showers. I guess the convection strength was either very isolated or that the ASOS cover foliage in Central Park soaked up a lot of what was falling. I like your screen name. As always …..

Been a while since things were this green and this well watered at the mid point of Summer.  Still some long term dryness going on but big improvements over NNJ last several weeks.

That already happened up here, its right up there with the worst I've ever seen. Yesterday will only prolong that misery.

Very little activity today too. Probably 90% of the area will stay dry.

I have a shiptload of them up here.  We got five in the last week just from being out on the deck.  I've found them crawling across the deck rails and even the deck chairs, and one up the wall of our kitchen!  We don't even butt up to the woods, so they must be from the copious amounts of deer wandering through the yard.  I just sprayed the hell out of the deck, deck planters, and surrounding lawn with pet safe spray so I'm hoping that does the trick.  Ticks in general are really getting out of control and tick borne illness, some serious, continue to rise.

My understanding is that ironically it is white footed field mice rather than deer that spread ticks the most, including the type commonly known as "deer ticks."  Foxes eat the mice, and communities with active fox populations have a significantly reduced incidence of tick-borne diseases.

My background is in ticks, and you are right that the white-footed mice spread them the most along with chipmunks. This is why you NEVER want to sit on a rock wall in or near the woods. The mice nest in them, and they are loaded with larval ticks, which molt into nymphs. The nymphs, because of their size, are the ones most likely to transmit Lyme. The deer are the singles bar for the ticks. The adult females feed on them, and the male ticks move from female to female to mate (gigitty gigitty as Quagmire would say). The males don't really even care about a blood meal, just mating. Such is life.

A cooler regime is in place and will remain in place through the remainder of July. Highs will generally reach the lower 80s through much or all of the remainder of July. The warmest spots could reach the middle 80s on occasion.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.6°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.1°C for the week centered around July 15. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.20°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.82°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -17.36 yesterday. 

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.144 today. 

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 72% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.6° (0.9° below normal). 

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.1° above the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.
